There are a lot of serene and lovely sights around our village if we just take a moment, stop and look.

These were taken behind Camden A one evening.

The fence along the east gate golf course is down in one area, is it going to be put back up ? If so, is that on C.V. or the golf course?

Is this ludicrous or what?

You have someone come to your home, and make a repair, then you try to charge the contractor more than twice as much as he makes because you "supervised" the repair... And you don't even have a contractors license, and if you did, why didn't you do the work yourself? Yet you charge them $40 an hour.
If you happen to plug in a twenty year old television into an electrical socket, and it "shorts out" the television, does not common sense dictate not to plug anything else into that socket until it is checked out? No.... Lets plug in another electrical appliance or tool, oops, that shorted out too... Lets try another....
I don't know about you, but to me that is the greatest mark of stupidity I have ever heard of or seen.
Oh wait....we're not done yet.... Lets charge the association or the contractor for all that damaged stuff. Let's see, how about $329.99 for an old analog tubed television that was left behind by the seller because it was too old....$129.99 for a battery charger and batteries, and $69.99 for an electric brad nailer (an electric staple gun that uses brad nails too) ....total.....$529.97, but wait.....it's not over... He has to nerve to charge 6% TAX TOO! That's another $31.80, bringing the total to $561.77!
That's what someone on our HOA board is trying to collect. Now tell me, is this ludicrous or what?
Same person is trying to charge a contractor $2404.00 for "supervising" an electrician doing a job contracted for $1000.00. On top of that, he is trying to charge the contractor $561.77 for the same thing he is trying to charge the HOA for....   Sounds an awful lot like FRAUD to me.
There is also a mention of the association being invoiced $942.54 for painting which they say they did. That is something for the insurance company to recover, but he put that on the bill too.
Total....$3908.31
Hey if I could get someone to do a thousand dollars of work and turn around and charge them  three thousand, eight dollars and thirty one cents, I would have one heck of a mansion on the beach while driving my Rolls Royce...
The nerve!

OLGA APPROVES SELECTION OF GLUSZAK FOR VP

-
The following was submitted by Olga Wolkenstein
..............................................................................

UCO OFFICERS DID THE RIGHT THING.
-
David Israel gave the Officers of UCO two choices to replace Barbara Cornish as Vice President; John Gluszak and Ed Black. I am happy to say the officers of UCO did the right thing in voting for John, who was next in line to secure the position since he had the most votes behind Marcia Ziccardy, who was elected Vice President.
-
The final vote to replace Barbara will go before the Delegate Assembly, and I feel confident they will also do the right thing.
-
Ed Black has been a thorn in my side for the longest time. He barred my roofers from coming into the village to repair my roof after the hurricane while he secured an arrangement with HIS Chosen roofing company to enter the village and replace the majority of roofs. As treasurer, he practically bankrupted the village; However, David keeps him in the loop.
-
It was a relief for me to see the officers do the right thing for a change and vote against David’s protégé.

New York Times Feature article on Century village

Did any one else see the overwhelming positive article in the March 9th New York Times on Century Village .  The feature was called "Too Young To Retire, but These Deals Can,t Wait".
I have to think that Century Village has reached the the bottom as far as dropping real estate prices go,.I see the prices of Century Village property heading in a positive upward  direction and would urge everyone who wants to buy a "peace of heaven"to, act fast and  tell all your over 55 year old friends up north about the great deals in a great Village. I have one friend and a cousin  who has bought.and two more friends are coming down to look in April

OLGA WOLKENSTEIN SAYS

-
Olga sends the following:
-
HERE ARE THE FACTS REGARDING THE PETITION TO RECALL DAVID ISRAEL.
-
Much has been said about the recall of David Israel, and I would like to clarify a very important issue which occurred the day of the recall.
-
This was the dismissal of evidence presented before the committee by the petitioners. When the petitioners handed the committee their supporting evidence, they took a brief look at it and announced it was related to Roger Carver and not David Israel; they dismissed the evidence without looking at it further. On the first page of the evidence was a cover letter which read in part:
-
Attached, please find a copy of a complaint between UCO and M&M Asphalt. I wish said documents to be entered into the Board of Inquiry’s record concerning Mr. Israel, as Mr. Carver’s alleged errors and omissions covered therein occurred under Mr. Israel’s auspices and authority as President, and in part form the basis of the petition.
-
If the committee had taken the time to view the evidence as presented, they would have realized the complaints against David Israel, and Roger Carvers were interrelated and as such too numerous to be examined in such a short time. In all fairness, they would have had to postpone the recall to examine the evidence. This never happened.
-
I just returned from jury duty in which the jurors were questioned by both parties in what is known as Voir dire (the truth). One of the reasons for Voir dire is to ascertain juror impartiality; this did not occur for the case of the recall of David Israel, and this is one of the main reasons for the lawsuit

OLGA WOLKENSTEIN SAYS!

TO LANNY HOWE AND THE SUPPORTERS OF DAVID ISRAEL

Please try to remember this because it is germane to the reasons century village is in this quagmire.

In February 2013, the petitioners in the recall of David Israel were invited to an OPEN OFFICER MEETING in which a discussion was to take place on the selection of a board of inquiry. Soon after the meeting started an announcement was made that the meeting was to be closed. The petitioners and their supporters were forced to leave under threat of removal by the sheriff. This act of suppression kept the petitioners and their supporters from discussing or submitting any evidence pertinent to the recall. It was for this reason and this reason alone that no evidence was submitted.

The advisory committee and supporters of Mr. Israel keep harping on the matter of not being given supporting evidence to review. How can the petitioners have given the committee evidence when they were barred from the meeting?

Please remember, no rules were ever established between both parties before the recall hearing; which is unheard of in any legal justice system?

The matter is now in the hands of the legal justice system. Let us allow them to make the final decision in the matter.

SANDY GRUSSGOTT RESPONDS TO OLGA WOLKENSTEIN

-
Ms. Wolkenstein,
-
For starters I think your calling me a lackey is surely a case of "the pot calling the kettle black". If the accusers really wanted the playing field even they would have first of all made sure that the top letter had the correct name of the accused on it and not someone else's name.
-
Most of all, the accusers would have seen to it that each member of the board of inquiry received a copy of that 120 page stack of "proof" at the same time that we received copies of the by-laws and petition.
-
Instead, they waited until we were up on the stage in front of whoever attended so that they could grandstand. Those three men were well aware that they had not submitted any evidence for the board of inquiry to consider.
-
If you want to go back and forth with me in this blog, if you want to turn this into a spitting contest, you will have to do it alone. After this I am done responding to you only one more thing. You question my version of Democracy, I call your version a Tyranny.

Protest on Olga....

-
I "intimated if we did not like our community, we could leave the country"? I don't know what you were reading, but no where did I say anything about leaving the country, however, if that is your mindset, by all means, feel free....
-
Love it or leave it? I did not say that either, and I do not imply that you are saying I did, but do I feel that way? In a sense, I do. I am not saying you should leave, but rather that if you don't like what goes on around you, you have the OPTION, as an American, to move anywhere you choose.
-
Olga, I take offense to the implication that I think of anyone as inferior, thereby labeling me as some type of racist. As a minority myself, I take a little extra offense.
I made a suggestion, that if you want to fight about something, join the NAACP or the JDL, both good organizations that do a lot of good for civil rights  Of course you failed to mention fighting for the Heroes returning from Iraq and Afghanistan... but from your blog, I can only assume that you have very little respect for the military. I spent the better part of my life defending your right to go and protest. One conflict to take down a dictator in Panama, and another defending another country being over run by another. All in all, twenty years defending our country. What did you do? oh, that's right, you "protested".
Viet Nam, mistake or not, was people in the military doing their duty, with honor. Only to come back to a bunch of cowards spitting on them. Were you also spitting Olga?
-
Nor did you mention my suggestion to do something constructive.
Now, I suggest that you take out your Webster Dictionary and look up the word democracy. Just in case you don't have one, I provided it for you:

Definition of DEMOCRACY (taken from Webster's Dictionary)

1
a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority
b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
2
: a political unit that has a democratic government
3
capitalized : the principles and policies of the Democratic party in the United States <from emancipation Republicanism to New Deal Democracy — C. M. Roberts>
4
: the common people especially when constituting the source of political authority
5
: the absence of hereditary or arbitrary class distinctions or privileges

NO WHERE in that definition does it say "democracy IS dissent". Your version of what I wrote is apparently just your distorted version of what you wanted to see. I actually had a few people read what I wrote, followed with your reply and they all came to the same conclusion... "what was she reading?"
-

RESPONSE TO BOB RIVERA

Answer to Bob Rivera
-
Options
-
You intimated if we did not like our community, we could leave the country. Wow, what a choice!
-
Love it or leave it. This was the CRY of the HAWKS during the 1960’s Vietnam War when many poor young men and women were being uselessly killed while their rich counterparts were in college escaping the draft.
-
At that time, many of us proudly protested the war, and I am one of those protesters who were vindicated when the most famous hawk of all Mr. Robert McNamara admitted the war was a HUGE MISTAKE. Is it likely Mr. Rivera that you are making a big mistake by getting rid of the protesters in Century Village?
-
Is it imaginable that some day in the future you will have to admit you were wrong? After all if people like me leave and there is no dissent, there will be no democracy because democracy IS dissent. Without dissent there is only dictatorship; one mind, one ideology. Remember, it is you who said this is America; it is still a free country, if we don’t like it, we could leave. So, feel free to leave anytime you wish because people such as me are going to continue contaminating the environment with democratic dissension.
-
Oh, and by the way, what makes you think that African Americans and Jews are so inferior they need us to fight for their rights? They are most certainly strong, and smart enough to fight their own battles.

RESPONSE TO SANDY GRUSSGOTT

-

Dear Sandy Grussgott,
-
In America, we do expect people to make informed decisions based on all the facts.

You sat on a board of inquiry and made a decision WITHOUT even looking at the evidence. This is unheard of in the United States of America where we consider ourselves a democracy. Is it possible that your version of democracy is sitting in a JURY BOX AND making a decision without hearing the evidence? This is exactly what you did.

How did you know Mr. Grossman's accusations were false when you never took the time to view the supporting evidence? You dismissed it as being irrelevant without even knowing what it was.

Based on your actions as a member of the board of inquiry, I too would have made the assumption that you were a David Israel lackey who made up her mind beforehand. Why else would you be so biased?

Beware the Scam

I received a call today that the caller ID identified as a number (692-4246) in Bel Glade, FL.  The lady identified herself as being from some medical center but she said it so fast that I didn't get the name of the company.  Since my husband sees a lot of doctors, I waited to see what she wanted.  The first question was does anyone in your home use a nebulizer?  Then she asked if anyone in the family used diabetic supplies.  The red flags started to fly for me.  If it was a facility that we were being treated at, they would have had this information already.  When I stated that my phone was on the national no-call list, she got defensive and said that that didn't matter.  I googled the number and found that it is a company that has been getting people's insurance information (mostly medicare) billing medicare for items that are never issued.  There are reports of the calls from as early as August or 2012.  This is a total scam.

I turned the information over to PBSO but they said they are unable to act on it unless someone actually gave them their insurance information or money.

Please be sure of who you are talking to on the phone and protect yourself.  Do not give information out to anyone unless you are absolutely sure who you are talking to.

UCO INSTALLATION LUNCHEON - BREAKS NEW GROUND

on a beautiful march day with the sun shining and the weather just right for a party the United Civic Organization of Century Village held it's annual installation luncheon.

not as before in a fancy hotel but in our very own clubhouse party room. there were folks there from all stripes. politians, attorneys, management companies ,WPRF, and let us not forget our own residents. everyone was dressed up and looked great.

the chair of the event, Pat Sealander, barefoot and all ,did one spectacular job arrainging for this and hosting it. her committee worked diligently and each and every one of them deserves a great big thank you.

Judge Alvarez swore in the new electees and a couple of the old ones that were re-elected.

the food was very good catered by Carrabbas. personally i went back for seconds of the ceasar salad.

all in all the atmosphere was one of conviviality and friendship. everyone i spoke with said this was the way it should always be. in the clubhouse partyroom. it was easy to get to and everyone knew where the bathrooms were.

UCO INSTALLATION LUNCHEON

Congratulations, to Pat Sealander and her Committee , for putting together a lovely luncheon
celebrating the newly elected VP's and Ex. Bd. members...From my perspective it was enjoyed
by all who managed to attend, unfortunately there were several empty tables.
Debby Massey, who never fails to entertain ( Saturday night Dances - on a monthly basis)
was a hugh plus...looking forward to seeing her later on, before & after "Showtime"
starring the incomparable "Sarge" whom I have had the pleasure of seeing several times
before...

If some people are so dissatisfied with our community, they do have a choice... After all, this is America, at least for now, it's still a free country.
We still have some rights, and one of them is a right to live where ever you choose. Don't like where you live? You can always move.
They even have the right to file frivolous lawsuits against themselves (that is since they are members of this community).
Since Filing a class action suit (would seem to me at least), benefit a lot of people, then why do the vast majority oppose it? Simple. The only one benefiting from this is the lawyers that charge big fees. Okay, say they win, and as they say, each resident gets a whole fifty dollars...WOW...fifty bucks! But it may cost us hundreds in the long run. Insurance rates will go up, and that's if they don't cancel it, legal fees will be ridiculously stupid.
I just don't understand the reasoning behind this.
Want change? Run for office. Run for president. Can't win? Run for Vice President. Still can't win? Do something constructive with your time. This course of action is destructive. Destructive to the people that came here to retire and enjoy their golden years.
I don't know how long I will have on this earth, but one thing is for sure, I want to make the most of what time I have left.
Want to fight about something? Join the NAACP and fight for the rights of blacks, join the JDL and fight for the rights of Jews, fight for the rights of the heroes coming back from Iraq and Afganistan, so they can have a job and not have to live on the street or beg on a corner... Do something. Something constructive, something that when you go to bed at night, you can turn to your God and say, I hope I made you proud today. If you want to be a leader, then lead.
There are some people in the village that just need to lead, follow, or the the heck out of the way! Which one will you be?

RESPONSE TO MR. GROSSMAN

-
Sandy Grussgott sends the following.
-
I resent the implications that I participated on the board of inquiry with my mind already made up about the charges. I resent being called an "insider" by Mr Grossman who knows nothing about me or the people that I associate with.
-
If you want to accuse me of something, Mr Grossman, have the common decency to do it to my face and not on a taped blog. You insult the intelligence of the people in Century Village by expecting them to make an informed decision based on your false accusations without knowing all of the facts.
-
If you feel that the governing body of C.V. is so inept why don't you run for something and try to change it instead of crying like a spoiled child every chance you get at every opportunity.

UCO VICE PRESIDENT RESIGNS

-
Email from VP Barbara Cornish
-
Dear David, It is with deep regret that I hand in my resignation as Vice President of UCO effective April 1st. It has been a pleasure to work at UCO. But seeing how the delegates voted for term limits for ONLY the President and Vice Presidents, I take this personal as a slap in the face and NOT a vote of confidence.

I found this to be very disheartening considering the work I put in to this position and the love I have for the village. I will be glad to stay during any transition period if you want me to. It seems extremely unfair that half the officers are term limited and the other half not term limited. This is not the kind of democracy I want to be part of.

Mr. Grossman has quite a few coments, yet his name is not on the Law suit, but he says: "It will be adjudicated, by someone who is in charge of adjudicating"!

COMMISSIONER SANTAMARIA'S ERROR

-
George Pitell sends the following:
-
Santamaria’s Error
I watched and recorded the entire Zoning Commission Hearing on the Golf Course. Well into the hearing Commissioner Santamaria stated that early in the hearing Commissioner Burdick had made a motion to allow the public to participate in the discussion and that he was going to second the motion but was interrupted before he could do so. Mayor Abrams said he did not recall such a motion. Commissioner Burdick said she had made the motion. Mayor Abrams asked if the record showed such a motion and it was reported there was no record of it.
-
A review of my recording of the hearing shows Commissioner Santamaria had it mostly wrong, but not entirely. The hearing from the first dealt with the question of whether or not to allow public participation. Several members including Commissioner Burdick as well as attorney Banks spoke on this question.
-
Commissioner Burdick made several comments but did not make a motion in this regard. Commissioner Berger spoke against public participation and then made a motion for approval of the development. The motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Taylor at which point Commissioner Burdick spoke on that motion concluding with her making a motion to “deny this petition before us until it is litigated in the courts“. It was seconded by Commissioner Santamaria and Mayor Abrams next called for discussion on this “substitute motion” The discussion dealt with questions of a law suit being filed, how long it might take and the possible cost to the county were it made a party to it.
-
Mr Banks next explained why he had called upon the Commissioners to make a decision to approve the application at this time. Commissioner Vanna then made a “substitute motion” to approve the application, with 3 provisions, this was seconded (not clear on the recording who did so) After a lengthy discussion the commission voted to approve Mr Waldmans application.
-
Now considering that Commissioner Santamaria almost certainly believed the fact of Commissioner Burdick having made a motion, it needed to be addressed. Had he correctly stated that motion and the fact he had indeed seconded it and it was noted by Mayor Abams as a duly received “substitute motion” we can only ask what should have happened? I do not know the rules governing Commission Hearing procedure, or what may yet happen after a viewing of the recording shows Commissioner Burdick’s motion and that it was seconded by Commissioner Santamaria.

CAN WE ALL GET ALONG?
LIFE IS TOO SHORT!!!

The people suing UCO are malcontents, have nothing more to do with their lives than to nit pick and grumble about everything.

Mr Karpf, Mr Solomon, Mr Grossman,
Why don't you RELAX by the pool and enjoy your retirement?
The delegates have spoken! 1 yes vote, 158 no votes, didn't you get the message?

Withdraw this frivolous lawsuit!
and let's work on the village's business!

Dave , please continue the great work you are doing and THANK YOU very much to you and your officers!.......
