Shame on some drivers here in Century village

On Tuesday, the 28th of Jan., about 11:15AM,I was at the stop sign at the Somerset  A-I exit to
to make a left on the main road. Across from me from the Andover side a man with a seeing eye dog was waiting to cross. 10 CARS PASSED ,GOING WEST ON THE MAIN ROAD AND NONE STOPPED FOR HIM!!!!
It is against the law not to stop for a physically challenged pedestrian. what did he have to show , having the seeing eye dog to be given the curtisey of crossing to go onto the pedestrian walk.
SHAME,SHAME,SHAME ON EACH OF THE DRIVERS. I'm sorry i was not in a position to take numbers.
Where is the "community" we are working to develop in our "golden years"??
Please pass this on to your e-mail friends.

If you have Medicare check this sitehttp :// www . nbcnews . com /video/nightly-news/ 54026469 ?from= en -us_ msnhp #54026469

It is a video from NBC news about the following: If you go to the hospital and not admitted on paper as anINPATIENT,but as someone only under OBSERVATION and you stay one or more days UNDEROBSERVATION and then are sent to rehab, you will pay out of pocket. Medicare does not cover you UNDER OBSERVATION FOR REHAB!!!. check it out.

ASYMMETRIC DEW CLAW ON EGYPTIAN GOOSE

-
Here is a mystery for the inquisitive reader.
-
Following is a picture taken on Campus of an Egyptian goose:

-
Careful examination will show that this handsome bird has but one dew claw.
-
Who can explain this apparent asymmetry?
-
Lanny,
of course you recognize this fine bird:
-
Perhaps you might regale us with your avian acumen and describe the close connection between this bird and his Egyptian cousin above??

WHY THE SMALL ASSOCIATIONS HAVE IT TOUGH

Is there a solution?

A lot of our small associations—those with 20 to 26 units—have it tough. They can’t find willing and able-bodied owners to be board members. The reason is not hard to find. It’s often a matter of simple arithmetic.

It isn’t uncommon for half the owners of units to be snowbirds. You can have some snowbirds on your board, but you need some on the scene year-round.

Unless your association does not permit renters, it’s not unusual for a number of owners to be landlords who live out of town.

Add to this, owners who are too elderly or infirm to serve on a board, a handful of owners who simply refuse to serve, and some who everyone knows would do a poor job, and by my arithmetic you could be down to zero, or less.

We are the only one of the four Century Villages to have so many (309) associations. It has been suggested by some that several small associations become one association: for example, all the Sheffields become one or two Sheffields. But how on earth would that work? It wouldn’t be fair from the day they combine to treat them all alike, because some have done a better job of maintaining their physical plant than others, and some have more money in reserves because they have been more prudent and charged more in dues.

An assembly of 309 (or is it more?) delegates makes for a very unwieldy UCO board of directors, too. I guess we all realize this.

With the drop in prices over the past few years, it has gotten worse, because more and more people are renting. And like it or not, the lower prices have resulted in more “problem” people moving in.

I wish I knew the answer to this problem.

DO NOT EAT THE COCONUTS NOR DRINK THE COCONUT WATER

-
Hi all,
Our Coconut palms have been treated with pesticide to combat spiraling whitefly. The EPA labeling is unambiguous and is presented as follows:
-
I have attached the label for Mallet T&O for reference.  On page 12 of the label it has the following statement:

DO NOT harvest or consume fruits or nuts from trees that have been treated within 1 year of application.”

As we know, the EPA-approved labels on control products are considered law at the federal and state levels.  I do not doubt that the potential levels of the active ingredient, imidacloprid, are very low in the coconuts, and even so low as to be insignificant if consumed.  Imidacloprid is an example of a newer class of insecticides known as the neonicotinoids, which are synthetic variations of nicotine.  These “mnemonics” have much lower mammalian toxicity potential than the organophosphate products (such as Dursban) that they replaced.  Additionally, we greatly dilute these products with water prior to application, and much of the product is bound by organic soil components before the roots have a chance to uptake it.  Imidacloprid has been the number one product by far for control of spiraling whitefly on millions of coconuts for the last 3-4 years and I am unaware of any issues.

Despite all of the above, the fact remains that the label prohibits consumption of the coconuts for one year after treatment.  Although coconuts are being used as ornamentals in landscapes, the possibility that some may be consumed remains.  Perhaps the only way anyone can be certain none are consumed would be to frequently remove the coconuts before they develop fully.  Although many of our customers do this already to prevent personal and property harm due to falling fruit, the additional removal services can become cost prohibitive.  Of course we also have no means or authority to police residents, especially in large communities such as Century Village.  Notifying Mr. Herrle of this label restriction and requesting the information be distributed to residents via website, newsletter, etc. is usually our best course when we begin these treatments.  If another company besides ValleyCrest does the regular palm pruning, we should also inform them that the coconuts have been drenched and should not be consumed by their employees or others.  I would be happy to speak to Mr. Herrle if he has any questions regarding this.

THE STRAW MAN AND THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Poor Esther. She is having such a hard time getting Dave Israel to respond to her wild and irresponsible charges, she has created a fictitious Dave Israel on Olga’s blog and goes back and forth with this straw man, posing questions and answering them herself as if she were Dave. The straw man looks pretty bumbling, of course.

It’s almost theater until you realize it is the well-being of CV being discussed and the character of a man devoted to his country and now the Village. Then it’s not so funny.

I have just finished reading “Great Bridge” by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough. It’s the story of the building of the Brooklyn Bridge, longest suspension bridge of its time in the mid-1800s, a bridge built so solidly it still stands and may stand for many more years to come, it is said. The chief engineer was Washington Roebling, a sterling man, meticulous, and the premier suspension bridge builder of his time. For 16 years he oversaw every detail of the work, even during years of debilitating illness.

For many of these years, however, the financing of the bridge––outside of Roebling’s purview–– was anything but sterling. This was during the era of Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall, and there were many who profited illegally from the bridge project. From time to time it served their interests to blame Roebling for things that were not at all his fault. They created a fictitious Roebling, a straw man, on more than one occasion, and tried to bring him down. Fortunately, they were unsuccessful.

A solid Brooklyn Bridge is what Dave Israel has been building here, I believe––a bridge that will benefit Brooklyn and Manhattan (Century Village) and bring her into the future which is already upon us. He is like Roebling, the Chief Engineer––and as with Roebling, unfortunately there are those who would discredit him, creating a straw man of their imagination to suit their own purposes. Don't let them bring him down. Reelect Dave as UCO president in March.

BE ON THE LOOK OUT

Be on the look out some one has been siphoning gas from our cars here in the village. I have talked to several people about this and they have had this happen to them too. I have not reported this to the police as of yet. I always keep my gas tank full to the top, and one day I noticed it was down, so I dismissed that thought and thought I must have made a mistake. But then I mentioned it to a few other people and they had the same misfortune. I hope this does not happen to you, so be on the look out !

Area code 212 not necessarily from NYC

Yesterday I received a phone call from 212- 077-1180..It appeared on my caller ID as"Name not Found"
I did answer the call, and the Asian Female at the other end, asked for me by name, to which I responded
Who is calling, and she proceeded to inform me that there was problems with my computer...as she
continued to speak rapidly, I informed her that I had no idea of what she was saying, and at that
point she hung up...Earlier in the day, I had a computer related problem, which was resolved by the
software company that provides me with Virus protection and at first I thought the above call was
a Courtesy Call Back....however, I realized it was not, before disclosing any information on my part.
I then placed a call to AT&T ( my provider) and inquired if in fact that call originated from NYC
After sometime she came back to inform me that this call  DID NOT originate not only from NYC
but was from OUT OF THE COUNTRY....the second set of 3 numbers,  077, indicated it was
placed from a FOREIGN country.  She further explained that all US calls do not begin with a
ZERO OR ONE.. Hopefully this information will prevent someone's computer from being "Hacked"
In conclusion I would suggest you check with your provider, should you receive any suspicious calls.

LOCK YOUR CAR - BE ALERT - IF IN DOUBT - CALL PBSO

-
The following information is from Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Detective Michael Antinoro, concerning vehicle burglaries.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reports there has been several vehicle burglaries since the end of November, in Century Village to unlocked vehicles. The burglaries have occurred on four different nights being report in the morning. The suspect(s) committed a few burglaries each night. All of the vehicles were unlocked.

The burglaries have occurred at Easthampton E, Norwich’s, Sheffield’s, Stratford O, and Canterbury J areas. These areas are in the northeast portion of Century Village, which is north of the Haverhill Rd. gate.

For the most part small items and change has been stolen from these unlocked vehicles. The burglaries are occurring in the late hours, after 11 p.m. at night, up to 6:45 a.m.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is asking for you to lock your vehicles and do not leave anything of value in sight.

If you see any younger persons walking around vehicles late at night, who you know does not live at your building, please call the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 561-688-3400. This would be considered a suspicion person call.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office needs your assistance in apprehending the suspect(s) causing these crimes. Please be observant to your surroundings.
If you see a person (especially a younger male) walking around vehicles late at night, you should call the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Attempt to see what the person is wearing, what the person looks like, and where the person is going to. This is needed so the dispatcher can give the information to the Deputy who is responding to the call.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in helping the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office keep your community safe.

Thank you
Detective Michael Antinoro

Drink....WATER and WHY

-
Important information for all Century villagers and their families.
Pass this on.
HEART ATTACKS AND WATER !

How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night.
Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this ! Interesting.......
Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor - Gravity holds water in the lowe...r part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement!
I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me. Correct time to drink water...
Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack
I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.
Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.
1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.
The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.
2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest, for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).
Please read on...
Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue.
They work much faster than the tablets.
Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks.
There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.
If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.- Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins.
Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ...DO NOT LIE DOWN!
A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved!
I have already shared this information. What about you?

A RENTER ON OUR WI-FI COMMITTEE - MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

A comment was made at our Delegate Assembly meeting about a renter on the Wi-Fi committee, being a violation of our Bylaws. This comment was ill informed as to the content of the Bylaw. The following is noted, extracted from Article VIII  A - 2).

WELCOME HOME MOLLIE...

I heard you are home from the hospital and wishing all the best of good health.
Am I upset that Olga told me to shut up at the Delegate Assembly this morning? No, not at all. What else can anyone expect from Olga. I stated a truth that she did not like, "Dorothy Tetro does not live here". That just goes to show what we can expect from these people. Don't like the truth then stomp it out. That is Olga!

SEARCH/NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

Where are you? Where are your bios? At every meeting, whether it's the UCO Delegates meeting, commttee meetings or just meeting with neighbors in the Village, I was told that we should expect a plethora of e mail bios. So far, we're still waiting and time is fleeting by quickly. Do I have to send out an APB to find you and your bio?

The deadline for e-mailing the bios is just about two weeks away, JANUARY 15th. Nominations from the floor are done at the February 7th Delegates meeting. If you are nominated at the February meeting, you MUST e mail your bio, in resume form to me immediately. Every notice written about the elections has my telephone number and e mail address. And don't forget to have your picture taken by either Ken or Howie.

We now have a form for each nominee to sign in good faith attesting to the fact that she/he lives in Century Village WPB at least nine months every year. This form also states that you will uphold and follow the by-laws at stated in the UCO docs. The document should be signed by the nominee and one witness. If you cannot give me your statement, please bring it to the UCO office. Tell whoever is the receptionist to please put it into the Search/Nominations file.

Come on. Whether you agree or disagree with what's going on in our Village, now is the time to get your opinions knows.
RUN FOR OFFCE. YOUR VOICE WILL BE HEARD,
BUT WHERE ARE YOU?

Amusing?

-
I get amused that the people on "that other blog" take everything written on here and give the credit to Dave Israel. Did he write first about everything they disagree with? I think not.
But...Dave IS their main target, so I guess it is good propaganda to blame him for everything wrong with the village... familiar tactics.
Maybe they will go to his home and break his glass windows next, isn't that how it historically progresses?
Are they getting the tar and feathers ready next?
Shorty writes
There is a sign on Haverhill Road which reads:
"Take back our Village"
It has been said that it refers back to the JEWS wanting to take over Century Village as it originally was many years ago.
Does this mean the JEWS want Century Village back?
"NO, IT DOES NOT"
Well then how about something else in that respect.
"DAVID ISRAEL'S PRIVATE BLOG"
It says right on the top in his Heading.
"OUR VILLAGE IN WEST PALM BEACH"
or below that it then says: Direct link to part two -
"OUR VILLAGE - PART TWO"
"THIS IS OUR VILLAGE"
In the side bar it says: "History made in Our Village" or "Creation of Our Village Blog".
OK folks, Is this OK for David Israel to say, write and use the term "OUR VILLAGE"? Is he David Israel referring to the JEWS taking over Century Village also?
This expression has been used over and over by David Israel on his private Blog.

It's pretty simple Shorty... one is the internet, and the other is a house of worship.
On this blog, you can get information that can be vital for your home and property. You can find out what to do in case of a hurricane, where to find help for various things, see the delegate assembly meeting you may have missed or even some other meetings. It is an information resource for ALL Century Villagers. It has many valuable links to various resources to make life a little easier, get you headed in the right direction whenever you have a problem with something in your condo.
At the Temple, or house of worship, that is to commune with God. It is to commune with each other while worshiping GOD Almighty.
