VOLUNTEERS AGAINST SCAMS TEAM - PBSO ANTI-SCAM BRIEFING
Yes, thanks, Dave, and thanks for all you do post on this blog. It's a gold mine of information, especially if one takes a few minutes to see all that is on the sidebar.
One note about security and ID theft: They always say (except when it's legally required) to NOT DISCLOSE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. In fact, I've heard it recommended not to even carry your social security card in your wallet. But medical offices (doctor offices, clinics, hospitals) routinely ask for your Medicare card to update their records. The problem is, your Medicare ID number is often your social security number (plus maybe one character). Anyone in the medical office privy to your Medicare number then knows your social security number!
What can one do about this? Looking for a leak in the dike of security, it seems to me this is a gaping hole.
Good post, very helpful!
ReplyDeleteDavid, thanks for posting.
