Sadie was absent from the Reporter this month...

Yes, Sadie was very absent from the UCO Reporter this month, with reason.
As long as they carry my name on their staff, (and I have asked it to be removed) I can not submit letters to the editor, I can only write "an opinion piece".
As much as I would like to write an piece stating my opinions on some of the ridiculous crapola that has been going on, I really can not. It would then be subject to editing, or being told it would not run because of fear of offending one or more people, no matter how truthful the article is.
I can not in good conscience write a piece that will not reflect my true opinion.
The same goes for Sadie's World. There have been times when my cartoon was a bit controversial even for The Reporter and it was redone.  Only once has it been pulled without my prior knowledge because of fear that someone may be offended. and Frankly, it was probably one of the best.
I will continue to support The Reporter and it's editors Joy Vestal and Myron Silverman, even when we don't always see eye to eye.
It is with that in mind that I take particular offense that someone with absolutely no prior experience in any media other than YouTube will criticize people with 40 or 50 something years of REAL EXPERIENCE in the real world of newspapers and printing.
When he can prove he has half as much experience, then his opinion might mean something other than a bitter renter that is mad at Ed Black for curbing his use of UCO property for his own profit.

YOU LOST ESTHER - GET OVER IT - DEMANDS CONTINUE, BUT WITH A VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE

-
Below is yet another lawyer letter from Ms. Sutofsky's attorney. So what is different about this demand; the phrase "original records" has been removed. Original records is a non-starter, as they leave the door open to alterations with no audit trail. So, with this issue resolved, UCO shall, as we did after the election of March, 2014, copy and release to any interested party, every scrap of paper generated in the March 2015 election. This production of copies is in accord with the UCO attorneys advice.

HOLE IN WALL REPAIR IN PROGRESS - DESPITE INTERFERENCE BY MALCONTENTS

-

As you may have noticed, repairs of the hole at the  Haverhill entrance have been underway since Friday, April 10, 2015. This project required extensive coordination with Palm Beach County, as this segment of the wall lies on County Right of Way. It is important to note that interference by certain Malcontents did nothing but delay the project.
-
Of great importance, is that this project will cost our unit owners nothing, since we have already received payment in full from the insurance carrier covering the driver who ran into the wall.

WATCH "MURDER IN THE CLUBHOUSE?" ON WED., APRIL 29

The Act II Community Theater presents

“Murder in the Clubhouse?”

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
Clubhouse, Classroom C
$1.00 Admission

Don’t miss this latest production by the intrepid Act II Community Theater actors, singers and dancers. Most of the regulars who performed in “Once Upon a Time,” are back, several of them having performed in the recent Resident Show, which was such a hit.

In this play Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson are called in to investigate, and investigate they do, only more Inspector Clouseau-style if you ask me. Misunderstandings and accusations abound, interspersed with catchy song-and-dance numbers.

Was it murder, and who had motive—nobody or nearly everybody? And in the Clubhouse, no less! That gets pretty close to home!

Please note: This is a somewhat smaller production than “Once Upon a Time,” so the group is once again performing in Classroom C, and this time there is a $1 admission charge. I would recommend you get in line real early.

VIDEO AND AUDIO RECORDING-A NECESSARY THING

The malcontents on another blog are complaining and misrepresenting the new policy about audio and video recording at WPRF, Inc. owned facilities at CV.  Remember, we do NOT own the club houses--we RENT the use of them from WPRF.  If WPRF wants to record people, check IDs, etc., on their property, that is THEIR business, not UCO or the delegates business.

There have been too many incidents of theft, abuse of guards and staff by CV residents.  Now such bad behavior is recorded and remember, you can be kicked OUT of (or even banned from) these WPRF facilities for bad behavior by the owner of the club houses (which is WPRF).  Now there will be proof on tape.

Seems like it belongs to Camden M

The dumpster is gone but the recycling bins are still there!

Robert’s Rules of Order Are Not “The Law” For Association Meetings

By Joseph Adams on April 1st, 2015Posted in Meetings, Operations, Reader Q&A

Question: Our condominium documents do not specifically mention any parliamentary rules or procedures that are to be used in conducting our meetings. Our president says that the meetings must be conducted pursuant to the “Florida sunshine laws.” Does Florida require that meetings be run pursuant to Robert’s Rules of Order, or some other parliamentary procedures?  R.P. (via e-mail)

Answer: The Florida Statutes do not require the use of any particular parliamentary procedures or rules. Further, there is a 1960 decision from Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal which holds that Robert’s Rules of Order is not binding or mandatory in corporate proceedings. However, the governing documents for many communities incorporate Robert’s Rules of Order as the applicable parliamentary guide for association meetings.

Robert’s Rules of Order can be very confusing, and is often misquoted. Helpful tips on using Robert’s Rules of Order, including handy charts, are available for free on the website of North Carolina attorney Jim Slaughter, at www.jimslaughter.com. Mr. Slaughter, a certified parliamentarian and immediate past president of the College of Community Association Lawyers, has also published helpful books on parliamentary procedure, including “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Parliamentary Procedure” and “Notes and Comments on Robert’s Rules.”  These books are available in most online bookstores.

Regarding to reference to the “Florida sunshine laws,” there are specific rights property owners have at association meetings. All three community association statutes provide that owners have the right to attend board meetings and speak at board meetings with reference to all designated agenda items. Members are also entitled to “participate” in membership meetings.

Further, owners are also entitled tape record or video tape board or membership meetings. The statutes all provide that associations may adopt written reasonable rules governing frequency, duration and manner of owner statements at meetings, and may also regulate the taping of meetings by owners. I have found it a good idea to have such a set of guidelines.

We have an infestation...

We have an infestation here at Salisbury E and it's not termites... It's illegal occupants!
Our Association President has hired a well-known realtor to rent two of our empty condos: one has been vacant for 3-4 years when the owner moved back to Vancouver, and the other, the owner past away in Aug 2014. These new arrivals are given keys without investigations, etc. Our Association doesn't own these condos, the Banks do...
To add insult to injury, Wells Fargo bank and Bank of America, who both hold 50k delinquent mortgages, have not started legal procedures; WPRF Inc is also not pursuing legal action, and the Sheriff’s office tells us only banks can press charges...
How are these illegal occupants
a) getting past the gate?
b) hooking up to utilities?
c) moving about the village without official ID's?
How many other empty condos are being rented illegally around the Century Village? Are we to close our curtains and hope this problem goes away?
