No irrigation wet checks in the month of August
Our maintenance company has told our association that UCO had made the decision to shut down the irrigation pumps due to the rain situation.
Is it lack of rain or too much rain because Lake Okeechobee
gates were recently opened?
Too much - and in preparation for possible Dorian flooding. The earthen dikes and levees were initially constructed in 1937, 82 years ago. Too high a water level and the pressure could breach the dikes. "Since 2013, the Core of Engineers has been forced to pump billions of gallons of water out of the lake to avoid jeopardizing the integrity of the Hoover dike holding back the water from inundating the surrounding populated area." (wikipedia) Then, the released water cause algae blooms, destroying native fish and plants. And stinking.
