Modems
With Atlantic can we use our own modem or will we have to rent it from them, and at what cost.
Can the snowbirds cut their internet service for 6 months each year like with Comcast. Thanks in advance for your answers
Hi, Roz F. From what I understood at Friday's afternoon AB infosession, (a) You can purchase your own modem, but, as the AB employee noted, it may become outmoded as AB is able to provide faster and faster internet upload and download speeds. It would still transmit, but not at the upgraded speeds. (b) Snowbirds can "cut their internet service" for $10/month. (c) You wil be able to rent a modem, but the cost has not yet been determined. AB will be holding many more meetings as they prepare to install; they will have a permanent office on Fairway Drive.
Hi Roz, This question can become quite complicated, but in simplest terms, yes you may use your own MODEM, but why would you? If you opt for Atlantic Broadband INTERNET at 100Mbit, You will receive a TiVO box, which will directly plug and play with AB INTERNET. The TiVO box will receive regular updates, which are required for optimal performance. The TiVO will be capable of operation by voice command. The cost will be $21.99/Mo. in the first year with 3% increase per year, rounded up to nearest 50 cents. These numbers are exclusive of Taxes & Fees.
For one thing I already own a modem and speed is not important to me. Also I do not want to pay a rental fee for a modem when not there for 6 months, or as happened this past season I did not come down at all for health reasons. I will be disappointed if have to pay $10.00 per month when I go up North, with Comcast I paid nothing when not there, and when there, $19.99 a month.
