COVID-19 - PANIC IS POINTLESS - WHEN MISINFORMATION GOES VIRAL
We're not just fighting an epidemic; we're fighting an infodemic.” The ease through which inaccuracies and conspiracies can be repeated and perpetuated via social media and conventional outlets puts public health at a constant disadvantage. It is the rapid dissemination of trustworthy information—transparent identification of cases, data sharing, unhampered communication, and peer-reviewed research—which is needed most during this period of uncertainty. There may be no way to prevent a COVID-19 pandemic in this globalised time, but verified information is the most effective prevention against the disease of panic.
People are sending Email to me that drip with panic - such Email is pointless. If you are concerned with the pools, which the CDC state are safe, don't go to the pools, if you are concerned with the Clubhouse, don't go to the Clubhouse, don't presume to deny others the use of pools or the Clubhouse, which are a principal source of recreation, the Clubhouse has been severely restricted, in accord with CDC guidance. The doctrine of Social Distancing of course applies, be it at a pool the Clubhouse or anywhere else - observe it! Don't gather in numbers.
As of March 24, there are a many thousands of coronavirus cases and some thousands of deaths. This flu season 17 MILLION people saw doctors for the flu, at LEAST 390,000 people were hospitalized with the flu, and so far between 23,000-59,000 flu deaths have been reported we do not see the global press ranting on about the flu. In the 1918 Flu pandemic, 30 million died globally Flu s quite contagious as well, and it comes back every year. Can we put things into perspective please?! It's a VIRUS. More people die from TB! Meanwhile "THEY" are putting measures in place that threaten our freedom and security.
I repeat, panic is pointless!

florida-surgeon-general-issues-new-health-advisory
3/24/2020 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says Florida's Surgeon General, Dr. Scott Rivkees, is advising all individuals aged 65 and older to stay at home for the next 14 days to minimize their exposure to the virus.
"As we've seen with this virus, the folks who are 65 and plus, are the ones that have the best chance to suffer a negative outcome, and that's disproportionately so, when you talk about fatalities. So, we want to make sure that those folks are protected," explains DeSantis.
He says the message from the beginning has been to avoid crowds and close contact and he says the easiest way to do that is to stay at home as much as possible.

CDC STATES "COVID-19 NOT SPREAD BY POOLS"
Can the COVID-19 virus spread through pools and hot tubs?
There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.

CLOSE THE CLUBHOUSE COMPLETELY
I was up at the clubhouse yesterday Monday only to see a line dance class upstairs people playing pool. now I understand people want to go to the pools to get outside in these trying times but they should follow the suggested distance and the pools should be off limits to usage. I am not panic but I believe in being smart. The samething with the buses and being sanitized? We are a village of 15,000 at risk mostly seniors that have not been tested. Has CERTS talked to the fl. health dept. about this situation. We think our numbers are low in fl but not that many have been tested because of not having test kits. Once they start large scale testing we will see numbers jump unfortunately. Let's be smart and care about each other in a smart way. We must all do our part to contain this virus.
A MESSAGE FROM MARK FRIEDMAN - ESQ.
A message from Attorney Mark Friedman (Becker)
As you probably know, the Clubhouse is closed to all classes for the remainder of the month due to government requirements for social distancing and out of concern for the health of the residents.
While we were supposed to provide a Board Certification class on March 25, that class is cancelled. We applaud the decision to shut down the activities in the Clubhouse in order to protect the health and safety of the residents in Century Village.
We will provide more classes once this crisis resolves itself. Please remember that the statute provides that in lieu of attending a class you may read your governing documents. With most places closed, this may be an opportunity to do so.
Once you have read your documents you can fill out an affidavit that says you have read and understood them and will faithfully uphold their provisions.
If you need to reach me, or if you need an affidavit, please email me at MFriedman@beckerlawyers.com
Stay safe. Stay Well. This too shall pass.

MESSAGE FROM COUNTY COMMISSIONER WEISS - COVID-19
-
-
Dear Constituents
As I’m sure you’re all aware, the coronavirus also known as COVID-19 is continuing to spread throughout Palm Beach County, Florida, the United States and the world.
As the virus continues to spread a lot depends on you.
Our county currently has 8 people who have been diagnosed with the virus, statewide this number stands at 155. In all likelihood this number will continue to rise in the coming days, weeks and months.
It’s understandable if you are concerned or nervous.
I want you to know that I and our county administration take this issue very seriously and we are doing everything within our power to contain and slow the spread of the virus.
County staff, the sheriff, state attorney, fire rescue, emergency managers and area health officials regularly meet to coordinate and evaluate appropriate measures, working with local, state and federal agencies and the private sector to handle this in the best possible way.
We will inform you regularly about the measures we are taking.
At this point schools have been closed and most all public events have been canceled with a few exceptions.
The board meeting scheduled for Tuesday March 17 is taking place.
Tomorrow’s election will take place as scheduled.
Our county bus system PalmTran is still operating as is PalmTran connection.
County offices are open.
Our county libraries are open.
The courthouse is open though jury selection and jury trials have been suspended.
The landfill is open and trash will be picked up regularly.
County parks and beaches remain open until further notice.
Our county senior centers are open though they’ve taken precautions.
This might change as we continue to monitor and evaluate.
Again, we are doing everything to contain and slow the spread of the virus.
We are planning for the worst and hoping for the best.
Where we end up depends in large part on how you behave.
I’m asking for you to use common sense.
By now you should all be strict about handwashing, wiping down surfaces, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, not touching your face, not going to work sick and be serious about social distancing.
Social distancing means you should minimize in person contact. So stay at home when you can. Skip social gatherings. If you have to go out, maintain a six foot distance from others.
If you do this it will help contain and slow down the spread of the virus and this will save lives.
Lastly, I’m asking all of you to be kind to one another and to be good neighbors.
Though you may not be able to visit your friend in the hospital or your grandparents in the nursing home, you can call them or write them.
If you have an elderly neighbor or friend, offer to do groceries for them.
In times like this we need everyone, young and old, strong and vulnerable to be considerate and thoughtful and we will get through this together.
My office staff has compiled curated lists of useful sources ranging from essential phone numbers, to grocery delivery services, county, state and federal sources.
My office is here for you.
