USE YOUR LOCAL CABLE FROM ANYWHERE ON EARTH - GO SLINGBOX

-
Today I was asked a question, "why do I have to pay for Cable 12 months of the year, when I am only resident for six months per year?"
-
OK! the reason is that we have a bulk contract with Comcast at a discount of some 65%, but this is based on 100% participation.
-
However, you may, through a process called "place-shifting" , control and view your local Comcast video from any place on Earth, the device enabling this remote streaming is called a Slingbox:
-
 slingbox placeshift
-
This is well worth every seasonal resident looking into, you simply plug the data source into the Slingbox here, and control and view the video from anywhere!
-
This is proven technology, so look into it and then maximize usage of your Comcast programming; and then terminate the Cable service at your remote location.

BAR CODES AND SNOW BIRDS

I just read in the UCO Reporter that the first 100 applicants per day will be processed for bar codes for residents' vehicles. Who wants to get involved in that? Why not permit folks to apply via mail? Those of us who will not be in C.V. for the next few weeks or months can simply fill out the form that can be placed in the form section of the blog (the current form is for transponder), enclose a check, a copy of the registration and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The application can be processed and the bar code sticker can be returned in the envelope provided with instructions on where to mount the sticker. It seems pretty simple to me. No lines, no fuss, no muss and it takes the pressure off other residents who wish to visit UCO and get their sticker on the spot. Any misuse will result in the revocation of the sticker. Our time at C.V. is valuable. I, for one, do not want to waste a morning waiting for a bar code sticker. This is an easy fix. Please make it happen!

5 MILLION GOOGLE ACCOUNTS HACKED - PROBABLY ON RUSSIAN SERVERS - PASSWORDS PUBLISHED ONLINE

Do NOT enter your entire password, substitute any three characters with an asterisk. If your password has been published Online, change it, and use a strong password.

UCO OPT OUT FORM - NO SUCH THING

Hi All
-
One of our Village Sue-Meisters, who is suing UCO at this time, recently approached WPRF requesting permission to distribute a so called "Opt Out" form at Rec. Facility locations; pools, Clubhouses...Etc. This form is addressed to UCO Officers!
-
Guess what, there is no such form, thus the request was denied. UCO is not in the Opt-Out business, UCO's entire raison-d'etre is  Opting-In. That means joining in common effort, in synergy to advance the comfort, convenience and convivial life style that most of us came here to enjoy.
-
It is through the process of "Opting-In" that majority vote consensus leads to power in purchasing products and services for the benefit of all. Those who launch Recall Petitions, create self aggrandizing clubs, File frivolous Law suits, Disrupt important meetings, and now peddle non-existent "Opt-Out" forms, seek only their personal benefit, caring little for the votes of the majority.
-
So, how much damage is the Body Politic prepared to absorb; when you are approached with this disruptive form, think about the broad array of Services provided by UCO; the thousands of hours donated by UCO Volunteers, the millions of dollars saved;  and then be careful what you sign and ask for, you just might get it!

ON BAR CODE STICKERS

I am sure glad I got my bar code sticker before driving up to Massachusetts. I kept putting it off till the last moment. When I went into UCO, Ed or Eve Black would kindly remind me about it. I’d say “tomorrow.” Bob Marshall would remind us ALL about it in his Reporter column and at the monthly delegates meetings (and, amazingly, get criticized for this in the “negative blogs”—you can’t win!).

Now it’s a must to have your bar code sticker, I understand, if you want to get in the Okeechobee gate without stopping at the guard station. As a reformed procrastinator I am urging everyone to not put this off. Get yours now, before the seasonal folk come down!

I’ve had a Florida Turnpike sticker pass for quite a while now, and it’s a convenience. Driving to Boston on I-95, though, I had to pay so many tolls ($14 alone for the George Washington Bridge), I got myself an EZPass. It covers virtually all the toll roads, bridges and tunnels in the Northeast. If you don’t have an EZPass, these toll facilities require CASH.

I expect the EZPass to be a great convenience, and our CV bar code sticker will be too if you'll stop putting off getting it. Bite the bullet NOW!

CORRECTION PLEASE - BUDGET YEAR TO BE RESET - NOT FISCAL YEAR

-
Previously in this BLOG an item was posted by yours truly regarding a change to the UCO Fiscal year in order to include our seasonal Residents in the debate over the UCO Budget. This reference to the Fiscal year was in error; Mea Culpa!
-
In fact, as noted by our Treasurer, the correct procedure is to change the Budget year by sliding it to commence on April 1, 2015. This requires a change to our Bylaws, which will change the budget vote from October, to January. This process was put in place today. This change if voted by our Delegate Assembly, will enable our Seasonal Residents to weigh in on such important matters as our Budget, and other major issues that may arise.
-
In order to get the process going, a Special meeting of the Officer's Committee was convened this morning. Following are the Minutes from this meeting:
-
-
This motion was subsequently presented to the Executive Board where it passed by unanimous vote. In accord with our Bylaws, the Bylaw change will be published in the UCO Reporter and then presented to the October meeting of the Delegate Assembly.
-
It is my sincere hope that soon all of our Residents will be enabled to engage in key issues of concern to all!

SCAM REVEALED, PLEASE BE CAREFUL

-
The following SCAM letter was received by one of our unit owners, Ruth, as noted on the letter; she was not fooled and provided the letter to UCO, so that we could alert others:
-
-
The problem with this "offer" is the exorbitant cost of some $56 dollars.
-
In the event that you might actually require a copy of your Certified Deed, it may be obtained from the Official Records of the County by Snail Mail for a cost of $8 dollars and change. The deed may be ordered online at the following Site:
-
-
The cost is less than that if you go to the Courthouse; something like $6 dollars. So, don't be scammed, be smart and save lots of bucks.
-
Finally, if an ordinary non-certified copy will suffice, that can be downloaded for free from the County Official Records Search Site at the following link:
-
http://oris.co.palm-beach.fl.us/or_web1/or_sch_1.asp
-
Thanks Ruth for sharing and helping others.
