It am shocked that our interlocking security measures and cameras at the gate could not have prevented this. How about the background check? Our danger is not from without. It is from within. Whether or not the folks involved in the incident passed "muster" with the background check, incidents such as this continue to point out the need for uniformity and consistency in the application process for residency. In my six years here at C.V. I have not seen one concrete measure taken to ensure our safety as it relates to who owns and rents here.
ReplyDeleteCheck again where you live. You live in CV-309 separate associations run (or not run in most cases) by your own volunteer board of directors. CV is NOT run by UCO and NOT run by WPRF. That is what we have here--for better or worse.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think it's the fault of background check that this horrific incident took place?
ReplyDeleteRuth, I have no way of knowing one way or the other whether these folks qualified for residency. I was addressing the broader issue of rogue condos ignoring the rules that have kept us safe for decades. I am not one to throw my hands up and say there is nothing that can be done to better ensure a safer C.V. Rules that were put in place can be changed. All it takes is the will of the people. The intent of my post was to bring this issue up so our residents know what is happening in C.V. Not all are aware.
ReplyDeleteIt is up to the individual associations to do background checks and then follow through. Too often some are allowing in unsavory individuals because they need the revenue for every condo to survive. As well people own guns and are not afraid to use them. It is a sad situation.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are domestic disputes everywhere in CV. Of course not all lead to someone being shot. The fault lies with the state of Florida that allows just about anyone to own a gun. I've lived here 10 years and nothing like this has ever happened. Considering the amount of units I'm surprise that there haven't been more incidents.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the latest Newscast,
ReplyDeleteno details have been provided.
It appears the incident took place at the Unit in Wellington.no mention was made of whether both individuals,or only one reside
there..
As for Gun ownership, many of our residents have permits, that is their Constituational right..which has nothing to do with Investigations,Security at the gate, Cameras etc.
FYI We have a "Gun Club" which meets in our CH, Weapons are not
permitted on the premises. Some members are former NY or PBSO, should that club be abolished? I think not! A dispute occured between a female & male, she shot him, perhaps in self defense, we do not know..let's wait for Law enforcement's conclusion!
The ironic thing, if what I read is correct, is that George Franklin, who heads up the Gun Club and is always urging us to "be safe," is the president of this association. Poor George. He has done so much for this Village. Even if you are for "no guns" this is a time to support George, for no one has done more to encourage safety for our residents than he. This is a sorrowful time. I don't know--does anyone?--if the person who was shot has survived.
ReplyDeleteAccording to a newspaper report, the victim of the shooting was in stable condition in St. Mary's Hospital. Nothing more was divulged, other than he was shot 3 times in the torso. The woman must be a good shot to hit him 3 times without killing him.
ReplyDeleteI believe I heard that there were no arrests to this. How is it possible that the person was not arrested?
ReplyDeleteIf the woman shot in self defense and there is an ongoing investigation, this is possible. You have to know all of the facts before making judgment.
