Mistaken Identities

Am I alone in thinking things are not all what they appear to be and we are being fed an over large dose of hypocrisy?

Considering UCO’s recent disassociation and censorship of the blog – a point that has never been fully publicly clarified by Dave Israel, I too was surprised to see Peter Amato’s two page political agenda ‘allowed’ in the UCO Reporter

Despite Jerry Karpf allegedly ‘wanting a clean UCO race ‘, in my opinion, Mr. K had obviously had a preview of Mr. Amato’s ad and responded accordingly. Or was it sheer co-incidence that the maintenance Guru chose this months Reporter to give a detailed report on tank less water heaters, which I understand, was Mr. Amato’s specialty?

Turning my attention to Dan Gladstone’s vote catcher I was astounded, in light of recent revelations, at the former bank directors rather poignant efforts to convince his voters that he was a happy family man.

After all, a quick look at Palm Beach Court Documents CD 97 -4795 FA may have had us believe otherwise.

Recorded there is how Dan Gladstone, alleged his entitlement to half a million dollars from his ex wife’s trust fund to help pay a huge Israeli Court imposed fine.

The former Mrs. G must be a very forgiving lady!

I genuinely look forward to the next issue of the UCO Reporter and hope Mr. Amato is ready to publish his own lie detector test results.

I await a more professional looking blurb, or at least a better picture of Dave Israel but can hardly contain my anticipation to read of Dan Gladstone’s American achievements.

Whilst Dan contemplates his “shoebox of thank yous", I do hope he finds time to write how he intends to deal with the numerous residents rendered homeless by his promotion of 1st Priority Restoration. He certainly, with I might the alleged blessing of Jerry Karpf, promoted them to my association and I understand many others.

Perhaps too, the pair can explain why, in a letter to Bradford Brown (Palm Beach Planning and Zoning) 1st Priority Restoration Project Manager, Alon Apel, - who incidentally has an unpublished telephone number and a new office just up the road, refers to his 1st Priority’s Restoration CV clients as UCO?

Above all, as we continue to marvel at Dan Gladstone’s, pre North American Bank trial, accolades, we can but hope, resident’s security and well being are high on his agenda.

A former security guard, Mr. G claims to have been involved in ‘Police Work’.

So given such extensive experience maybe he would like to confirm that Ist Priority Restoration Project Manager, the afore mentioned, Alon Apel ,is not the same Alon Apel currently registered on Florida Corrections Offender Network (Alon Apel DC X65115 – verified address 5556 SW 28th Terrace Ft Lauderdale) who is a convicted felon currently serving probation.

  1. There is only one presidential candidate with broad expertise in all UCO and Association functions. Dave Israel has worked tirelessly and brilliantly for Century Village for the last 5 years. Dave has lived his whole life 'on the give ' NOT' on the take'.

'On the take' is a business term for putting yourself and your profit ahead of all else. It does enable $$ for advertising. I hope the village can see past the spin and glitter and nonsense in large paid ads.

  2. Posting of facts is not bashing, it's called letting the sunshine in. Stop the censorship before this blog becomes like the old CV Q&A

I have seen 1 post and 1 comment disappear with no explanation for there removal.

  3. too bad there is not wider more extensive dissemination of "truth"--thanks Sue and ditto Elaine! I made a point of asking our board who will be our Pred candidate ---hope other residents don't just leave the choice to the delegate without any discussion/review

  4. I am looking over Sue Cohen’s blog posting, especially as it concerns Dan Gladstone, and find myself more than a little concerned about what may have been going on behind the scenes. A recently circulated paper has me similarly concerned. Insurance on our buildings is the biggest single item in our association budget, bigger by far than what it costs for our management company to do the maintenance AND our accounts. It must be that way for every association in the Village. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the cost of insurance has gone up almost tenfold in the past 10 years.

It doesn’t make sense to me to have only one person “in the know” about our insurances, which I understand consist of 11 separate policies. It isn’t fair to this person, and it is a prescription for possible graft and corruption. It is especially dangerous (should the charges I see being leveled be true) when contemplating electing this person president of UCO.

We need transparency in the UCO governance, that thing Dave Israel has been harping on (I think he is right). Let us get to the bottom of this stuff. For example, is there a tie-in between the water leaks in the Village and—suddenly—the vast number of apartments being gutted because of “mold”? With, as I understand it, our one knowledgeable insurance person being the one to make arrangements with a company that “does everything” for the association? This is very attractive for the poor, beleaguered association president: One company, arranged for by Dan Gladstone, contacts the insurance companies, arranges for the mold specialists to come in, and then—when their “verdict” is four apartments need to be completely gutted—arranges for the carpenters and sheet rock men to do the job. Voila! Job done. But was it done honestly?

How do we know what these particular mold specialists tell us with their electronic instruments is right? THERE ARE NO CHECKS IN PLACE HERE, and, as has been noted elsewhere, elderly people, with apparently no say in the matter, are being thrust out of their apartments while the work goes on. This needs to be looked into as thoroughly as possible by every condo association president and/or delegate. Either become convinced of sufficient evidence of wrongdoing or clear Mr. Gladstone and give him our thanks for his insurance help over the years. In the latter case, I still think reforms are needed: MORE THAN ONE PERSON SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE VILLAGE-ARRANGED BUILDING INSURANCES, AND THERE SHOULD NOT BE AN ARRANGEMENT WHEREBY OUR INSURANCE EXPERTS ARE THEMSELVES INVOLVED IN ENGAGING ONE "WE-DO-IT-ALL" COMPANY.

  7. WOW!!! and I thought the National Enquirer was exciting to read.!!!! What about the installation of shut-offs valves right next to the shut-offs valves of the water company. Five plumbers have been suggested to do the work by UCO. Is there any dirt in there also? Andre

  8. Hi Andre,
I can testify that the Master Plumber I spoke to stated that it is a waste of money.
He suggested obtaining a Curb Stop Key (T-bar wrench) and use it to turn of the water at the meter by way of the Water Company valve.

No getting down on your knees and reaching into a creature infested hole in the ground.

  9. I must make a correction , the one comment I thought was missing is not missing , It's under a different post. Sorry

  10. Thanks David, I agree with you on the futility of installing two cut-off valves side by side to do the exact same thing, which is to cut-off water in case of an emergency.
How come some people like Mr. Gladstone are going to Federation's meeting to convince people to do just that? It is also pictured in the UCO Reporter
as a must do thing for all buildings. Why?? Is this a UCO Executive recommandation to the Village Associations or simply a personal opinion of an executive committee member which is also the chairperson of the Insurance Committee.? Andre

  11. Hi Andre,
    January 25, 2010 5:13 PM,

UCO is not empowered to tell any Association what they must do.

I am aware of no vote taken by any body regarding these new shut-off valves. It has been briefed around extensively.

I do not support the project in any way.

I do not know the opinions of the other UCO Officers.

    Dave Israel

  12. Am I the only one who read that the person in charge of the projects by 1st Priority is a felon on probation? Why are we investigating people who want to live here or paying to have security when this company is bringing them in every day? This mess gets worse day by day!

  13. UCO's ties( if Any) to Ist Priority should be investigated by the States Attorney. Does anyone have any political friends that could get this ball rolling?

  14. I think I am Watching the Key Stone Cops here in CV . But it really bad what is going on here.

  15. I think that Dan Gladstone should have checked into the backgrounds of First Pirority before bringing them into the village. I certainly don't want a convicted felon working where I live if in fact Alon Apel is one. When we had a broken pipe and I told Dan, He just called up First Priority not even giving me any other names of companies to choose from. We had no choice.
