We need Jean Dowling to be in public office. I have worked with her for numerous years. She asks when she does not know and when push comes to shove, I'd prefer a bulldog latching on to my "hind quarters" rather than Jean, because she pursues and will not let go on issues of high priority that need to be addressed. Florida ranks very low when it comes to a comparison evaluation of all 50 states. Florida may be ranked midway among the lowest 10% of our entire country. I rarely support anyone publicly because of my long held position at UCO as Advisory Chair, but in her case I will make an exception. She needs your vote, and she definitely has mine.
ReplyDeleteIt surprised me when I first heard that Jean Dowling was running for school committee, but then I learned about some of her qualifications. She’s a former teacher herself and was married to a superintendent of schools, for just two.
ReplyDeleteJean is what the school committee (entire school SYSTEM, I should say) needs desperately, in my opinion. She is FOR the teachers (on whom everyone dumps), is against the FCAT, and is against “one size fits all” education. She’s NOT a “good ole boys” person, thank goodness. I hope with her on the board we’ll lose some of the good ole boys.
Maybe Jean’s a bit old-fashioned in her approach to things? I say we need a good dose of “old fashioned” in the way our schools are run these days. The kids, the teachers and everyone will benefit.
I shall be interested to learn more about Jean’s views on the county’s school system from the blog Dave has told us about. Fill us in, Jean!
I hope this longtime supporter of Century Village gets a lot of support, including financial, from her friends here in her quest to become PERHAPS THE FIRST PERSON FROM THE VILLAGE TO BE ELECTED TO PUBLIC OFFICE.
