THE OTHER CERT AND NATIONAL SECURITY

-
Hi all,
Within the wiring diagram of the Department of Homeland Security one can find US CERT:
United States – Computer Emergency Readiness Team:

REF: http://www.us-cert.gov/

One of the many vulnerabilities that threaten the Security of the United States is that of the National Command Authority (NCA) dependence upon computers and the World Wide Web (WWW). The use of Computers and the INTERNET is so pervasive within the Government, that a successful penetration and crashing of the Cyber infrastructure would be nothing less than devastating to the Security of our Nation.

One of the important tools in gauging Vulnerabilities is the National Vulnerability Database (NVD), developed by NIST: National Institute of Standards and Technology (nee National Bureau of Standards).

REF: http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/search

Do you believe, for example, in the myth that Internet Explorer is the most unsafe INTERNET browser? Well I invite you to go to the NVD and plug in the name of your browser, be it Firefox, Chrome, Seamonkey…Whatever, and see what comes up!

Please check all of the data base boxes and search for the past three years; you are in for a surprise.

Also, the site leads to many other interesting Computer Security locations so please browse around, using whatever vulnerable browser you use! And no, LINUX will not protect you!
