OVPU REST IN PEACE

IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT I LAY TO REST THE ONE VOTE ISSUE HERE IN CENTURY VILLAGE. IT IS ALSO WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT I REALIZE THAT MANY OF OUR RESIDENTS FEEL THE WAY THEY DO ABOUT GOVERNMENT. I ALSO REALIZE THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT FORWARD AT THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF INFORMATION. IT IS TOO BAD THAT OUR PEOPLE WANT TO KEEP THINGS AT A STATUS QUO.

REMEMBER, IF ALL YOU HAVE IS A HAMMER, THEN EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE A NAIL.

  1. Hi Phyllis: You did a very good job representing the OVPU position. Thank you for that and for your ongoing service to CV.

Phyllis is doing for all of
    us at CV

  3. Phyllis:
You of all people know how some
of our residents are facing hard-ships..you have brought in services
    to assist those..however, lack of
Info. was & is not the primary reason..In spite of a Legal Fund,
No one is willing to expend any
additional monies, to explore anything! You also are aware of
    the potential increases, all across
the board, in addition to the fore-
closurers, walkaways etc..so at this point in time...this is not doable......

  4. The explanation has been the same since we started this process. Delegates like the power and don't want to give up anything.

  5. I think our system is broken in many ways. CV is much too big to be advised and directed by amateurs.
That being so - we are lucky to have someone as smart and responsible as Dave Israel in charge.
    Thoughts:
Imagine an OVPU election, Meek and Greene style, most votes cast according to advertising lies bought by candidates with $$.
Do the delegates really want power or do they think they know more about what is going on because they volunteer, are on cmtes, and attend meetings.
If someone will promise to run my association meticulously and responsibly, doing most of the Board functions, and for free, I will sell them my ‘prez power’ for 2cents.

  6. Elaine,
I agree with you 100%. Please somebody tell me about all this power and thrills I get as a President or Delegate. I put in 10 to 20 hours a week on this job. My association just missed it's first delegate meeting in 3 years because I was out of town and I could not get anyone else to represent us while I took a one week vacation.
We the delegates are on power trips??? Is somebody nuts???? We are lucky if we get 50% of the associations represented at the meeting. So maybe the 50% that do show up actually care about there associations.
I would love to see one vote per unit. We can't even get all 315 (or what ever it is) to vote at an election. How many do you think would vote if all 7,000 had a vote??? I have $5 that says you wouldn't get 1000 people to vote.
