Who ARE These Guys?

Your grandkids know who these people in the news are, but if you just glance at the headlines and you barely watch the news, you are lost in a lot of small talk. Here goes...

Lady Gaga, pop singer, said to be the new Madonna. Made headlines when she wore a meat dress. Click for her Wikipedia story. Click for her music video.

Demi Lovato, a Disney princess from their zitcom Sonny With a Chance and telemovie Camp Rock. Made headlines with a trip to rehab and footlines with rumors regarding same. Click for her Wikipedia story. Click for her music video.

  1. Thank you, Booker. I haven't been up to speed on who's who for decades. I had trouble in high school keeping Perry Como, Eddie Fisher and Frank Sinatra straight. Oh, I have them straight now (or sort of), 55 years later. I'm just very slow on the uptake on the newbies, so thanks for the help. Newbies to me are any luminaries of the past 20 years.

  2. Hi all,

    Coefficient of FP & D = 9.999 on a scale of 10!

  4. Hi Mike,
    November 12, 2010 10:39 AM,

The word you are looking for I think is "Wiccans"

Wickens I presume are baby candle wicks!

  6. Hi Dave, we will chat about this and other perils facing CV in the near future. It was brought to my attention that classes in nude body painting will be offered in the Clubhouse, starting in Jan. There is trouble in River City, I tell ya. The DEVIL is at CV's door.

  7. Fortunately I have younger friends (40s and 50s) so I am aware of this music; which is not to say that I like it. Keeping up helps you stay young.

  8. Re Lovato, why is taking big strides around a stage yelling, yes yelling, into a mike such a big deal. I heard Jasmine (Disney new big thing) last week in person - identical painful noise (people were cheering) maybe I have the wrong ears, give me Susan Boyle any day. What would our clubhouse crowd think of the youngsters?
Dave - one man's FP is another person's interest.

  9. Hi Elaine,
    November 12, 2010 1:33 PM,

No such egalitarian principles are to be permitted on this matter.

There are certain issues that are simply black and white, no shades of grey!

In this case, there are certain absolutes that apply, this stuff as a class is FP & D of the first order of magnitude; in short, this Emperor has no clothes.

  10. Sorry about that: I was at the doctor the other day when I met another Villager staring at a People magazine cover wondering who was this person. I told him if he read the magazine more often he would be more attuned into who was into the gossip page. Of course, this person should also read the regular newspaper and know who was into the real news (is this Boner guy trying to out-tan Obama?).

  11. A poll was circulated at one time during high school asking which of the three singers we liked best, Perry Como, Eddie Fisher or Frank Sinatra. I didn't particularly like any of them and got them mixed up anyway, as I related earlier. I preferred some of the real old vocalists from my dad's era, some of whom he had on phonograph records; but I really didn't know their names well, either. Well, you know how it is in high school--you don't want to appear as too much of a misfit--so I answered Perry Como. I never would have guessed in those days how Frank Sinatra would endure, but he certainly did. Now I like all those old guys. I enjoy the music of the fifties more than I did in the fifties. I guess that's what nostalgia will do for you.
