Comcast Phone Service

Hi All ,
I had Comcast phone service and Internet installed on Wed. 1/5/2011. Phone worked last night but there is no dial tone this morning. I sent an e-mail to customer service but that says it will answer in 24 hrs. Does anyone have a suggestion to get Comcast's attention on this issue or am I without phone service for at least 24 hours.
Thanks , Mike

  1. Hi all,

I have answered this question or minor variants thereof many times, but here we go again!

The Telephone system we all grew up with is referred to, by communications engineers, as a "5 nines" system; in conversation they will use the term POTS (Plain old Telephone System)

A "5 nines" system refers to the fact that POTS is available and operational 99.999% percent of the time; no non Mil-Spec system with which you are familiar, approaches such levels of reliability; not the light bulb, the toaster, the ball point pen the washing machine and certainly not the automobile!!!

NO INTERNET based telephony system, be it public INTERNET or proprietary Converged Regional Access Network, like COMCASTs, can claim this sort of RELIABLITY.

In a Village like ours, where many elderly residents are but one small event away from a 911 call; I strongly advise that a POTS line be maintained.

  2. Thanks Dave, I understand I took a chance but is there anyway to get Comcast's attention at this time . Mike

  3. I agree with Dave. My AT&T telephone never went down through all 3 hurricanes. In fact it never goes down. But my cable was down 2 or 3 weeks.
Better go back to AT&T Mike.
