A good percentage of us Century Villagers were New Yorkers who love bagels and while we eat them here, we miss the magic that made them bagels in New York. Well, there's a company that found the secret: it's in the water! They have an office — er, restaurant in Delray Beach, and they've taken it all the way to Beverly Hills, where they signed former talker Larry King as a spokesman.

Sorry, but nothing beats Montreal bagels. Fairmont or St-Viater the best!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBooker: The "Secret" was
ReplyDeleteknown as far back as the
early 70's..One of my late
brothers' lost a bundle,
inmporting water from North
Carolina, when he & some
other Montrealers attempted
to produce the one & only
Montreal bagel...which was
attempted again, 20 yrs. later, in Boca, by another group, who met the same fate...There is NOTHING
that can compare...Long Island has the "Bagel Boss"
shops,founded by my late
husband's boyhood friend,
now owned by his sons &
franchised and they do produce a great product....
along with their bialys
& cochen..but a far cry
from "Fairmount" bagels..
which are smaller,not doughy
dipped in honey water, then
brick oven baked...I'm drooling.....oh by the way
there is the Strathmore bakery in Lk Worth, that too
originated on Long Island....
I used to live in Palm Beach Gardens, and we would go to the Brooklyn Bagel shop, and their bagels were good. My friend would pick up bagels, though, at Manhattan Bagel, also in PBG (on Alt. A1A), and claimed their bagels were better. I've tried both and couldn't tell you. I am not a bagel expert, so appreciate all the suggestions made, including yours, Bettie L., of the Strathmore Bakery in Lake Worth. Where is that place?
ReplyDeleteI do know where the best pizza is made. That is at Town Spa Pizza in Stoughton, MA. They make only one size (medium) but many kinds. Personally I like their linguica with double cheese. That's not much help for us living here, though......
There is nothing like Brooklyn bagels. Ask Larry King: He too claims that New York has the best water, and that is why the bagels are tasty. The place he's endorsing claimed they found a way to duplicate New York water to make the perfect bagel. I have not had the opportunity to have one yet.
ReplyDeleteNo one has mentioned Starz Bakery right down the road. They may not compare to NYC bagels but I think they come pretty close.
