Hi all,
You may find the following story amusing, I did at first; but give it some thought! Everything is amenable to research!

Stepping on dog droppings is one of the more irritating aspects of life. In Israel, a suburb of Tel Aviv is testing a new way to determine who isn't scooping the poop. The local vet is collecting samples of doggie DNA, using a mouth swab from the pets. If droppings end up on someone's shoe, the city can check it against its database and fine the owner. Owners contribute the DNA sample voluntarily, but the city is considering making it the law.

Good morning, I'm Renee Montagne. It's one of the more irritating aspects of city life, so a suburb of Tel Aviv is testing a new way to determine who is not scooping the poop. A local vet is collecting samples of doggie DNA using a mouth swab from the pets. If droppings end up on someone's shoe, the city can check it against their database and fine the owner. Right now, owners contribute the DNA sample voluntarily, but the city is considering making it the law. It's Morning Edition.

How it works
The PooPrints™ program was designed to be simple and affordable for your community to implement.

1.Contact BioPet Vet Lab to discuss your community's needs and set up your PooPrints account*.

2.Collect a DNA sample from the dogs in your community using BioPet's DNA Pet ID Kit (DN2000). DNA Collection is performed with an easy-to-use and harmless cheek swab.

3.Collect a DNA sample from all the dogs living in your community.

4.Send the required materials back to BioPet Vet Lab for DNA extraction**.

5.Pet owners will be notified when samples have been received and their DNA World Pet Registry accounts have been created.

Match the Mess - Once a dog's DNA is extracted and on file, it can be used to compare any offending mess left on the ground. All the community needs to do is:

1.Collect a sample of waste using the PooPrints Sample Collection Kit (PC2000).

2.Send the waste sample(s) back to BioPet for comparison.

3.Results will be available in two weeks from receipt of sample(s) at BioPet.

BioPet will communicate the results of the comparison with the community contact. What the community decides to do with the information is at their discretion***.

* Ask a BioPet Representative about the various account types a community can have to maximize their benefit from the PooPrints Program.

** Required materials can differ based on your account type.

*** BioPet Vet Lab and the DNA World Pet Registry are not responsible for any policies implemented by the participating community.

How much does it cost?

Use the calculator below to get an estimated cost of implementing and using the PooPrints program in your community. To get started you will need at least one (1) DNA Pet ID Kit for each dog you plan to register.
