WHAT DO YOU ELECT A UCO PRESIDENT FOR?

Hi all,
Todays Staff meeting, which is held every Monday at UCO degenerated into a session of lies, and inuendo by a few malcontents. Our Treasurer turned on her tape recorder in what was the beginning of a pre-scripted performance. This was a cue for our corresponding Secretary to read a prepared script accusing me (the President) of having a meeting with M&Ms Jeff Cohen  (Paving Contractor) and his Attorney. This was a blatant lie.
-
Jeff did indeed come to UCO on Friday to obtain my signature on a new permit for restriping the UCO parking lot, there was NO Attorney present at that meeting. The job did not originally require a permit at all, until one of our Residents caused Permits to re-open the case, which they had originally signed off on as completed. This is just the beginning of this nonsense, as, the result of this "dime droppers" actions will incur additonal costs for all residents in our village.

The malcontents dance at our Staff meeting was simply an extension of the kabuki played out at our Delegate Assembly meeting of May 4, 2012; which caused over half of the Delegates in attendance to walk out in disgust. (Perhaps we need to terminate these Staff Meetings)
-
Additionally, some of our elected Officers are causing Bylaw changes to be presented that would strip the President of virtually all authority to make appointments to Committees. Who knows what they have in mind next!
-
So, I say to all of you Delegates out there; what do you elect a
President for, for who they play cards with, for who they are friends with, for who they glad-hand at the Clubhouse, For how many meetings they can disrupt, for how much they can scare us about money in order to raise our budget payment, for how much they can increase our Insurance premiums; in other words: to what extent they can get away with egregious arrogation of power!!
-
I think you elected me to put an end to this sort of nonesense; and the malcontents who could not get elected, just can't get over it, they want "power" back so they can reach into our pockets again, so that they can shut off the information streams that my Administration provides, so that they can resume political censorship of the UCO Reporter, so that they can roll back the technical advances that we have wrought in UCO. Please do not  pass Bylaws that leave a virtually powerless CEO who can no longer pick those who are most qualified to populate our Committees, do not let Committee appointments return to the realm of political patronage positions!!
-
Or! let them get away with it, in which case; you can pick a new President. Life is to short for me to put up with the nonsense that we have all been subjected to of late!

  1. In our By-laws under committees, which was changed on March 2nd"The President, with the advice and consent of the Officers Committee, shall appoint such standing committees, etc.(read the bylaw under committees). I had this done because I felt it was fair that all elected officials have a input. I would hope all Chairpersons that were selected would choice people that would best suit that committee. Hoping that we all want to do a good job for the village. I brought this idea to you David and you agreed. I then went to Randall who told me to get a petition and he would bring it to the advisory committee and after that approval it would be presented to the Officers committee, were it was approved. And then to delegate assembly were it was also approved. If you felt this was unfair David I wish you would have spoken up then. I am extremely upset that you feel this way. I personally feel I as Chair of Security has selected the right people for the security committee As overseer of Transportation I opted to keep Lori Torres as Chair and all agreed. As overseer of the Bid committee you suggested Rodger Carver and all agreed. As overseer of Programs and Services I selected Marilyn Pomerantz who all agreed.(You even said what a great meeting she ran and a good job she is doing)

  2. I was disheartened to hear about what's happening in our village. I am sad that some of the newly elected are choosing to dismantle so much good that has been accomplished the last two years. It's like they are already campaigning for a future election! Stop being so SELFISH and act in the best interests of OUR village. You were elected in good faith to use your expertise to help the village. You are members of a UNITED CIVIC (CIVIL) ORGANIZATION! ACT like it! There will never be peace In this world. You are proving it!

  3. Can anyone tell me what March 2 has to do with May 10 current and future discussions! Is this typical! Barbara talk with Dave.

  4. Delegates didn't re-elect Dave to strip him of the authority afforded UCO presidents for 40 years.Presidents in government and business cannot function without the ability to appoint standing committees.Let's assume all elected officers want to do the best for the Village--let them start by cooperating with the duly-elected President.

The buck does and should stop at Dave's desk--and he has spent our money wisely, reduced our costs and advanced the business operations of the Village for the entire time he's been in office.

So far new officers and executive committee members and friends have acomplished the following:

--proposed an amendment to shift power away from Dave for no justifiable reason

--recommended an unnecessary resturcturing of a UCO budget that saved us money last year and was honorably managed by former Treasurer and accountant)Ed Black

--exposed the Village to enormous costs and disruption by reporting us to Permits authorities because parking lot striping was not strictly up to code throughout the Village. To object to a contract do we turn our anger against the people who live here?

These actions aren't fooling anyone. Power grabs and hostile
actions that do nothing to improve the life of residents will backfire. Delegates should not vote for the amendment to reduce the authority of the President to form committees or the proposal to change the format of the UCO budget.

  5. The proposed by-law change is an outrage. The March 2 by-law change was the first step in removing authority from the president. The President of an 8 million dollar business needs to have authority to lead. The US President picks his own cabinet. Why are people who have little or no experience trying to take this power away. Why is there a group of people here in the village trying to undermine all the powers of the president?

Why did someone go to the code office and open up a closed and satisfied permit, the results of which he is proud. This action alone has the potential to cost the unit owners a lot of money and several lawsuits. The last big lawsuit cost us almost $700 thousand dollars and was a total waste of our money

If we do not support our President we are in danger of losing him. A leader must have the authority to make decisions and lead or we become a rudderless boat. We elected David, he has been probably one of the best presidents UCO has ever had. We are more informed about the actual workings of UCO than ever before. He and Ed Black have brought the office into the 21st century. Let's support him and continue the progress.

This village is like paradise except for the meetings we have to go to and listen to people get up and pick apart every little thing. They do not have honest questions and no answer is ever enough for them. They just want to disrupt and destroy.

Today we have standard business procedures for contracts. Starting with a detailed RFP (request for proposal) meeting with the qualified companies and running the proposed results before the delegates before signing.

This village is in grave danger.

  6. Let me remind the people..The march 2nd amendment change was approved by advisory, officers comm., exec. Board comm., and the delegates. This amendment was even looked over by Mr. Tennyson and approved by David. So if the people did not want this change that was implemented on March 2nd then why did they vote for it. Maybe I am missing something.

  7. Thank you Anita & Mollie. I could not have said it better. I was counting ballots when the last amendment came up for a vote or I would have gotten up to speak against it. We have a duly elected president and as Mollie said even the President of the United States has a right to appoint and work with people he can relate to, not people who oppose his every move. If the delegates pass these amendments we will have a President in name only. I can only think that the group who instigated the last change has seen that they left a few loop holes open and want to close them. With these changes we won't need a President anymore. I would hope that the delegates would vote to turn these amendments down. As for anyone who contemplates running for President in the future you had better make sure that all your good friends get elected to be able to support you and what would you have to pay back to put forth your ideas or would you want to rewrite the by laws again?

  8. Well said Anita & Mollie & Grace. In March about 40 of the most involved people in the village were in the vote counting room and could not speak. Now the power hungry are depending on a Summer lack of people or even lack of a quorum so the Executive Board can sweep thru more bad ideas.
Why did we get the Millennium Agreement, because some people had to have 'More Power, More Power' but they have no idea how to use it to benefit the Village. They are full of resentments and bad judgment. Good volunteers and sensible people run the other way.
    Lose, Lose! For the Village.

  9. Hi Grace, Article VIII, Committees, A. Appointive Committees, #1 and #2. The change to these were made with the consent of wording by Mr. Rod Tennyson and David. The only ones involved with this change was Randall, David and myself. We would be the only instigaters

  10. Dave...YOUR DOING GREAT JOB. DON'T LET THEM GET TO YOU. YOU HAVE MADE TREMENDOUS IMPROVEMENTS IN THE OPERATION OF THE VILLAGE, WHICH I AM VERY APPRECIATIVE. IT"S ONLY A FEW KNUCKLE HEADS THAT TRY TO DESTROY THE VILLAGE AND BY DOING SO COST ALL OF A LOT MONEY. SO KEEP UP THE FAITH AND CONTINUE TO DO THE GOOD WORK THAT HAVE DONE IN THESE LAST FEW YEARS> YOU HAVE MY TOTAL SUPPORT
