CARTHAGO DELENDA EST - UCO MUST BE DESTROYED

-
CARTHAGO DELENDA EST
At today's Delegate Assembly a unit owner, suggested that UCO President Dave Israel should "fall on his sword". This in the same breath of implying that the current state of conflict between himself and UCO was comparable in some way to the conflict between the ancient Roman Republic and the North African City State of Carthage during the Punic Wars; this person was heard to say, "Carthage must be Destroyed", no doubt some not so veiled threat to UCO! There was some mention of a threatened law suit, though this was not specified in any detail. Some comparison; talk about apples to watermelons!
Precisely what this "war" is about is not clear; there is endless re-hashing about paving and drainage contracts, invoices, monies in various categories; but very few accurate specifics as to the issues. Again as the disruption escalated, and as additional performers come to the microphone, Delegates simply walked out in disgust with the ongoing kabuki as they had at last month's Delegate Assembly which was disrupted by the same dramatis personae, and which was introduce at the Executive Board meeting a few days earlier by other actors performing act one, the financial panic mongering act; the performance was simply a repeat of earlier and numerous rehearsed meeting disruptions.

It is recorded that, Roman Senator Cato the elder, ended every speech he made before the Roman Senate with the Phrase "Carthago Delenda Est" (Carthage must be destroyed.) Is this what all of you law suit advocates have in mind for UCO; simply charming; simply brilliant! Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. Don't permit a few malcontents to drag the Village into a divisive litigation.

  1. Hi David, I thought the meeting last month was terrible to say the least, but this month sounds worse!!! I don't know how you put up with this nonsence...They are trying to push you into quitting, but don't give the the satisfaction. Is there anyway legally to remove these people from the meetings? They are ruining the village and makes one want to move out of here.

  2. “We continue to hear from our discontented residents, usually very loud in their protests, that they are unhappy with whatever UCO is attempting to do in the Village. … the next President inherited the dissensions prevalent in the Village”.
That is from the UCO Reporter Nov 1995, it lists many CV Presidents, people of foresight and ideas, who toiled to better the life of the villagers – they were saints.
    Hang in there Dave.

  3. Dave...As I said in the past....YOU ARE DOING A TERRIFIC JOB. DON"T LET THEM GET TO YOU. It's to bad we have a few numskulls that disrupt the good you are doing, The majority of the condo owners are behind you. Please stand firm and forget those knuckle heads .

  4. I enlarged this picture of ancient Carthage and swear I can see the remains of barracks-style buildings like our condo buildings. Also, that long street in the background looks very like Okeechobee Boulevard in the old days before it was paved. And though I am not sure, there APPEAR to be the remains of the Kent Pool, too. It's pretty scary when you think this could happen to us.

  5. I would be embarrassed if this was a chosen delegate from my building association. Residents should view the meetings on channel 63 to find out who is disrupting these meetings. As a board member I would get rid of them fast! Who would want to live in their building with such a Yahoo?

  6. As a Unit Owner and a Board Member of my Association, I would like to know who appointed this so called "MAN" to represent me or my Association in going to the Zoning Board and speaking at the Delegates
Assembly with authority (?) on my or our behalf?? Let he who speaks of lawsuits be wary of one themselves.

  7. Your frustration is totally justified. Unfortunately, we can't stop someone from doing what Ed G. did, but we can voice our outrage as you just did (thank you), and we can let it be known that we will not tolerate the destructive behavior of people with no other goal than to tear the Village apart. If dementia is a factor, it is terribly sad (jmitaly put it in proper perspective), and all the more reason to limit the disruption -- at Delegates Assemby two 3-minute commentaries should be more than enough followed by removal by the sheriff if anyone refuses to comply. And we can follow your lead by speaking up. Many of us think that the wild behaviors speak for themselves and we don't need to respond, but we do. We need to speak more (myself included)and hope that people who can no longer be coherent get the help they need.

  8. I have friends, who might have been interested in buying here, tell me they couldn't believe what they were reading in the blog and viewing in the delegate meeting videos. They found the blog by themselves. Don't the people causing these disruptions realize or care about the public relations damage they are doing to our community? Actually, I guess their actions already answered that. It's very, very frustrating and it has been going on way too long. Who needs this nonsense?
