PROGRESSIVE DELEGATES VOTE FOR WI-FI IN 2013

-
Hi all,
After spirited debate, the Delegate Assembly voted yes, to fund Wi-Fi in the UCO 2013 budget.
-
Despite a small group of negative speakers, the Delegates voted to fund Wi-Fi at $2.00 per month per unit.
-
Wi-Fi in Century Village will result in a paradigm shift in the image of our Village, we will be regarded as a forward looking place to live, with an eye to the future.
-
Thanks to the Delegates that made this happen.

  1. How wonderful that we had enough progressive delegates in the assembly to counter act the negative votes to put $2.00 per month for WIFI in the village.

  2. Great News!

Thank you Dave, the WiFi Committee and the Delegates for working so hard and succeeding on this positive step of bringing WiFi to Century Village.
Everyone, even those opposed or struggling financially will benefit in the short and long term with WiFi being available to all at such a reasonable (cheap) rate.

  3. "WI-FI-inally"!

Thanks to all, especially our President Dave Israel for keeping this initiative alive. Thanks to all the Delegates who kept an open mind and listened to the voices that spoke with common sense and foresight. Thanks to all the "snow birds" who chimed in and made their voices heard.

  5. Hi j,
    September 8, 2012 3:01 PM,

The Wi-Fi Committee is building the RFP.

We will select a number of qualified vendors and distribute the RFP.

We will do a Power Point presentation at a Town Hall meeting for our Residents.

We will receive each Vendor to have them present their response to the RFP.

We will approach the County Commissioners in an attempt to make an agreement to use the utility poles in CV and around CV.
for our WAP (Wireless Access Points.

We will develop a Network Topology to optimally place the WAP.

As required we will obtain easements from some Associations to place WAP on their buildings.

    The build-out will commence.

So, as you can see, there is a major project, but I anticipate, early 2013.

  7. Several years ago, I watched a Delegate and Executive Board Member rise and make a motion to "end the blog".

    Now you know why.

UCO Finance Commitee attempted to kill, or at least slow down the WIFI initiative by underfunding it.
Blogmeister, via the blog, immediately called for a grass-roots reversal of this decision

    The decision was reversed.

Many of our Officers, Board Members and Delegates do not welcome this kind of 21st century digital direct democracy.

  10. The Blog discussion on the Wi-Fi subject was great. No ranting and raving, no pointing accusatory fingers, but only a sensible discussion, which was a great help to me. I was against the $2 outlay, but good arguments made me see another side to this. I am glad, along with most of you, that the proposal passed.

  11. You should have been in the cheap seats with us, we were raving and pointing accusatory fingers and other body parts too. Soon as we got settled back down, the man with the scooter would back out of his parking spot and the beeping would set everyone off again.

  12. So happy to hear that it passed. I just found out this morning as I only returned to CV yesterday from my summer place in the Berkshires. Thanks to all the forward thinking delegates and a special thanks to David. Glad we're finally entering the 21st century.
