SAL DERISE SAYS

-
a traffic study should be done to see if a right turn only lane at the west bound exit of Borden street could be a possible solution for the double stop sign at Borden & Century Blvd.
-
if you make the Borden street exit a right turn only, their would be minimal disruption to the residents in the north - east area, the local residents could use this exit to go to the clubhouse and points west.
-
They would still be able to enter their community from Century Blvd. but they would have to go north on Bath St to get to the east gate.
-

-
you would be able to eliminate the dangerous crossing and the stop signs on the exit lanes to the gate.-

  1. I do not agree its been the way it is for who knows how long. Leave it the way it is now. That is my thought

  2. I could see that eliminating the problem there but I think it would cause a more dangerous situation at the four corners. I could see people that would come out of Bordon and want to make a U turn at four corners. That is already worse than the Borden intersection with the Medical building so close to the four corners.

  3. I agree with Anitra. It's difficult enough at the Four Corners, trying to watch traffic coming from the three other directions to determine if one is next to proceed. Add to this someone making a U-Turn--and who knows, also someone trying to cross as a pedestrian or on a bike--and we would have a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

Even if this Four Corners weren't such a difficult intersection, having a right turn (from East Drive onto Century Boulevard) and the suggested U-Turn could present a problem--as this "who goes first?" kind of situation has elsewhere.

  4. Hi all,
    Sal Derise responds as follows:
    .................................
at no time did i suggest a u-turn if lanny read the blog

he would have seen that i proposed an exit at bath st.

as for the four corners.... that condition will remain the same...

the trouble is too many people treat a stop sign as a yield sign.

    1st...you must completely stop--no exceptions

The law behind a four-way stop is "first come, first go." The first car to stop at the stop sign gets to go first.

When two or more drivers stop at the same time, the car to the right has the right of way.

Drivers who are turning are expected to yield to drivers heading straight through the intersection.

Be courteous and patient and kamakazi corner should be no problem

  5. Now I’m really confused. You say “see if a right turn only lane at the west bound exit of Borden street could be a possible solution for the double stop sign at Borden & Century Blvd.” (first paragraph). I guess you mean this right-turn-only lane would be, not at the west end of Borden (at Century Blvd.), but at the intersection with Bath.

Traffic can already do this, can’t it? So are you just making it mandatory to take the right onto westbound Bath? Then more traffic will be exiting from Bath onto East Drive headed toward the Four Corners, right?

What happens to those living on Ascot Street and on the portion of Borden west of Bath? Would they all have to exit via Bath, then left to Four Corners?

My map may not show this part of the Village correctly. There are errors on the map in places, I know.

  6. I meant (first paragraph): "not at the SOUTH end of Borden."
