Statues
from Don - Dave, ms. Eva mentioned the possibility of a statue on resistance pool island. How about an online contest for the best idea for the statue? I will save my idea for last- i want to see what others come up with first. from Don.
Elaine's ideas, in photos, these were at Palmieri's. as usual click to enlarge.

Hail Caesar!
ReplyDeleteI like the whimsy of the middle one, whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteClowns, we need clowns, or Buddha
ReplyDeleteYou want buddha just put a lawn chair up on the island. I'll sit up there a couple hours a day.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely need an angel to watch over us.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteJune 28, 2013 at 3:01 PM,
I think we can do without Pazuzu at the pool.

Who's the guy in the middle?
ReplyDeleteMiddle one is like the statue of a Griffon, a mythical beast, guardian at the entrance to BlackFriars Bridge, London, UK.
ReplyDeleteBut can it scare ducks?
I'd prefer a tasteful statue 0f CV's Patron Saint Baal
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteJune 28, 2013 at 6:45 PM,
The one in the middle is a thinly disguised replica of Pazuzu - who is not very nice!

Iconography
ReplyDeletePazuzu is often depicted as a combination of diverse animal and human parts. He has the body of a man, the head of a lion or dog, eagle-like taloned feet, two pairs of wings, a scorpion's tail, and a serpentine penis. He is often depicted with his right hand pointing upward and left hand pointing down.
Mythology
Pazuzu is the demon of the southwest wind known for bringing famine during dry seasons, and locusts during rainy seasons. Pazuzu was said to be invoked in amulets, which combat the powers of his rival,[1] the malicious goddess Lamashtu, who was believed to cause harm to mother and child during childbirth. Although Pazuzu is, himself, an evil spirit, he drives away other evil spirits, therefore protecting humans against plagues and misfortunes.
