  2. I am not a member of the Computer Club and am not a very skilled computer user, but I thought Susan Bucher's talk was great. She really knows her stuff. Her presentation was packed with information, and she fielded question after question expertly afterward. She has been up against some very difficult obstacles––none of her own making––in improving election procedures here in Palm Beach County.

I used to think that being Supervisor of Elections might be a pretty cushy job. I imagined this person being REALLY busy only during the presidential elections––that is only once every four years! Not at all after hearing Susan talk today! She has had to take on the bureaucracy, the politicians, the legislature, and the companies that make the voting machines in her efforts to get accurate counts and reduce the waiting times, especially in early voting. Reliable voting machines are NOT as available as one would think––not at all. There is no end to the number of things she has to consider in dealing with absentee ballots, voter registration, and early voting. This while everything is being modernized––replete with flaws as any computer user knows. These flaws are annoying to most of us; they are deadly when encountered in the elections process.

I think Palm Beach County is real lucky to have Susan Bucher as Supervisor of Elections.
