THE REPORTER WOULD LIKE YOUR FEEDBACK . . .

on the following subjects:

The VA Hospital in West Palm Beach: By any of you who have had personal experience with the hospital and doctors there—has the service been good or lacking in your opinion? Please specify. Your suggestions for how it could be improved, if any?

Smoking: Residents often gather under the portico when going in and out of the Clubhouse. At present smoking is allowed here on the north side. Some residents feel smoking should not be allowed under the portico at all. Do you agree or disagree? Can you suggest another place within a reasonable distance for smokers to congregate?

Please let us know at the UCO Reporter, preferably by e-mail; otherwise, by dropping off or mailing a note, or by talking to a staff member. We need your name and address, etc., so  we know you are in fact a CV resident, but you can request that your response be "Anonymous" if it is published.

  2. "We add Years to Your Life and Life to Your Years!!" Is the website slogan of Centuryvillage.com.

This sentiment is inconsistent with allowing smoking under an entrance portico forcing people to be exposed to second-hand tobacco smoke, a proven CARCINOGEN.

Here in Century Village Boca Raton, the Management & Operations Committee is soon going to PROHIBIT smoking under our entrance portico. They will enact the ban as soon as a concrete pad is installed with benches behind the hedges beyond the portico.

While we may be ahead of CVWPB on this issue, we still lag you guys with respect to the idling of the buses in front of our Clubhouse. Although the "green forces" briefly obtained a moratorium on idling, the "little old lady" forces overturned it, as they wanted to board the buses at will and the buses can't kneel when the motor is off.

Yes, that's right - we allow folks to board unattended, idling buses while their drivers are on a break at the end of each 10-20 minute run in the name of convenience. This, despite the fact that both the bus manufacturer and the EPA do not recommend idling diesel engines, whose exhaust is listed by the World Health Organization as carcinogenic (cancer-causing).

Supposedly, the committee is looking for buses that are green or that allow kneeling when off. The current bus contract expires on Feb. 1st.

We look forward to the day when we may go to shows, clubs & the gym without subtracting years from our lives.
