Sprinkler Opt-Out ....... Handrail Opt-Out ?
It appears that many associations are moving forward and beginning
the opting-out process regarding the requirement to retro fit sprinkler systems
into their buildings.
During a couple of delegate/officers/ operations meetings, when the subject of opting
out of the requirement to retro fit buildings with sprinkler systems; opting
out of the handrail requirement was piggy backed with the sprinkler issue.
It seems as if the hand rail opt out option has now become a
non-issue.
If you look at the form, DBPR CO 6000-8, (above) which is Page 6 of
9 of the UCO Operations 2016 Fire Sprinkler Opt-Out as of May 3, 2013.pdf (located
in the sidebar of the blog) is shows a box that can be checked to opt out of
the handrail requirement. Why aren’t more associations using this option to opt
out of handrail requirements?
Why wasn’t a boiler plate “Written Consent not to Retrofit
for Handrails” form created in the same format of the opt out of Sprinkler
retro fit form and included in the instructional packet?
I am not criticizing the creation of the instructional
packet, it’s a great help, but I am confused on why the attention to the handrail
option has disappeared.
Any informational response from the community is appreciated.

OPT OUT OF FIRE SPRINKLER BY WRITTEN CONSENT - ANOTHER WORKING AID - WHAT IS YOUR FCTMH FILE NUMBER?
-
In the process of opting out by written consent, one of the forms you must send to the Florida Division of Condominiums, Time Shares and Mobile Homes is DBPR Form CO 6000-8 - Retrofitting Report for Condominiums. Near the top of this form, you must enter the five digits of your Association FCTMH (Florida Condo., Time Shares and Mobile Homes) File number.
In order to assist all Associations in finding this number, UCO has prepared the following list of Associations and the corresponding File Number, I hope you all find this useful. A copy of this list is available at UCO.
Please advise of any questions in Comment stream.

AN IDEA FOR CHANNEL 63
CHANGE
IN USE OF THE NEWS TICKER
Not
too long ago I noticed a news ticker (moving horizontal bar with information)
on Channel 63. It carried the weather.
When
I saw this, I thought that this would be the perfect place to instead list the special
programs on Channel 63 taking place for the next seven days.
The
programs are listed in the Reporter,
but it takes time to find the right page for this, and with the newspaper being
a monthly, the information has often changed. The programs are also listed on
Channel 63 itself, but it's a nuisance to wait until this comes around.
If
the news ticker carrying the weather I saw a while ago instead carried the days and times of the programs for the next
seven days, I think this would make life a lot easier for those who would like
to watch Channel 63 but have been frustrated in not knowing when the things they want to watch are showing. With the news ticker, want to know what's on Channel 63 and when? Just turn to 63 itself and you'll have it in seconds.
As
for the weather, who needs the weather on Channel 63 when there are so many
other better sources for this?
People have worked long and hard to bring us what we have on Channel 63, but I think it is fair to say that our community channel has not been an overall big success. As I see it, the two big drawbacks to Channel 63 have been (1) the lack of special
programs and (2) not knowing when the special programs are on. Seems to me this "news ticker" solution would take care of the second problem. (Obviously the tape would have to be kept up to date.) Then with more
residents tuning into 63, interest in our community channel increases, and—who
knows?—this might then provide the impetus for more programming to be worked up.
Save a life of one you love , a neighbor, or a friend
On Tuesday May 17th Century Villagers have an opportunity to take CPR instruction in our Club House. Here is an article from the Web that explains it fully.

According to the American Heart Association, around 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they do not know how to administer CPR.
These statistics are rather alarming, and there is an easy solution. CPR can help save the life of someone you love, or the life of a complete stranger, if you only take the time to learn.
Emergency situations are difficult for everyone, but there is always a way to help. Learning CPR training will not only give you the ability to save someone’s life, but it will also give you the confidence that you may need to step in and help during an emergency.
As 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home, the value of CPR training is always increasing. Taking a course from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or even from an organization in your area can reduce some of the deaths that are caused by cardiac arrest each year.
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation is not as scary as it sounds. It is easy to learn and will give you the confidence to perform in a high-risk situation. Learn CPR today and be ready for all kinds of emergencies.
You can sign-up at the UCO office, the Club House entrance.
Please help a neighbor and yourself.
Thank you, Ruthie Berman
