DOM GUARNAGIA ON A FEW NO COST/LOW COST IDEAS ON HURRICANE PREP.

LOW AND NO-COST THINGS TO DO BEFORE IRMA
It’s probably too late to stock up on water and batteries since there is a sense of havoc around the corner, however, there are a few simple things that we all can do to make hunkering down more comforting.
·         Change the setting on your refrigerator/freezer to a colder setting. If the electricity goes down, the contents will have more time to be useable before spoiling.
·         Fill some clean empty containers with water and pack as much as you can into voids in the freezer. This will prolong the shelf life of the contents and provide drinking water as the containers defrost.
·         Set the lever and apply tape over the drain in the bath tub and fill with water slightly below the overflow opening. This will store water for flushing your toilet for several days. If the electricity goes down throughout the area, pumps cannot deliver water to your sink/toilets.
·         Close your shutters by Thursday. They have been unused for some time and working on shuttering should be initiated early since the task will be daunting.
·         Plan to share the experience with someone who is elderly and alone. There is strength and reassurance with friends.
·         If your critical medications are less than 10 days’ worth call your Pharmacy and Doctor to have an early refill or at least some additional meds provided before Friday.
·          Pass the word to your neighbors who may not have a computer to receive these no-cost tasks.
·           Hopefully, the impact will be minimal. Prepare for the worst and ‘be prepared’.
