Lessons Learned (Irma)

Please add to this beyond existing prep list items, CERT prep list was excellent too:

Make friends and contact contractors before hurricane season.
Remind maintenance to put blue/yellow recycle bins in meter room, or do it your self.
When your power is on, or whenever, check on friends in nursing homes.
If you are replacing trees per code, Live Florida Oaks, or Palms, most likely to stand.
If hurricane is coming across FL from the Keys, probably shelter in place.  If it comes from east, leave!
Make sure you have phone recharger for the car, not just indoors.
Have a condo checker if you are away (not the Board!)
Anything still needs to be done, do it yourself.

  1. I was thinking about more drastic situations, years ago we were not so much short of water because we had rain barrels. Now we can also have more solar equipment, and hand crank radios and flashlights. Gravity lights are interesting but solar may be better. I also have a life straw for drinking water from puddles and retention ponds, yum!
