WANT CAPTIONS? WE'LL GIVE YOU CAPTIONS!
Poor Dave Israel. He complained that the captions for the photos
in his article "Dome of Light" were missing, and he is right, we
missed the ball at the Reporter on that one. They would have helped a lot. But we may
have the solution, discussed last night, and our CAM, Donald Foster, helped
with some refinements. We'll put Dave's articles on very technical subjects in
comic strip form and use those little balloons for captions. And every once in
a while (this was Donald's suggestion) we will leave the balloons blank for the
reader to fill in. This could even be done as a kind of Q & A: See if you
filled in the balloons correctly; answers on page 17. We are a little afraid to
run this by Joy Vestal—in fact, Donald has skipped town today. He and Chris are
headed for the Brazilian jungles for a week. From one jungle to another....

Hi Lanny,
ReplyDeleteVery amusing!!
Dave Israel
Wait till you see this actually done in a forthcoming Reporter. I'm thinking more and more with the Q & A that it might be a good teaching tool that could be used beyond helping explain the intricacies of your technical articles, Dave. Examples:
ReplyDelete1. Driving out the Haverhill gate and going south on Haverhill, can you make a right on red?
2. During what hours is UCO open on Fridays?
3. Who has a regular column in the Reporter on safety concerns?
We need a cartoonist, however. Bob Rivera, are you there?
