ODE TO OUR UCO PRESIDENT

Running for a fifth term after a very productive eight years

The news is out there for all who have ears,
Dave Israel's running for another two years!
Dave, with your hat now thrown in the ring,
Gives Village residents cause to sing.
Except perhaps for a small minority,
Whose sport seems to be to annoy the majority.

You've brought our Village like a sage
Into what's called the Computer Age.
You started it all with a simple blog,
Till now we look back, all quite agog.

At the vast amount of helpful information on that blog.

We think too of all you have done as chief.
To be not left behind has been quite a relief.
Of the reams of old records we were not proud,
But now we are, for they're in the cloud!

What a chore it was to get a transponder;
When two trips to UCO you had to squander.
Now to UCO or Clubhouse you make but one call.
Folks, what could be easier, after all?

Insurance by far was our biggest expense.
The yearly increases were just immense.
With no competition, just an insurance czar,
Our budgets were strained, really way too far.
But when competition you introduced,
Our insurance rates were greatly reduced.

And our associations saved millions as a result!

Your meetings with board members have been a hit,
When a dozen or so come and with you sit.
Over coffee at UCO what they ask at these sessions
From your long experience yields valuable lessons.
While the boss, they find, is really quite nice,
And a wonderful source of much helpful advice.

At Delegate Assemblies the vote took so long,
And you wondered each time if the count was wrong.
So you introduced the electronic clicker.
It was quick and accurate—what could be slicker?

With the UCO Reporter your policy's been
To just write your articles—and then
Sit back and see what's produced by the staff—
Some things serious, some deserving a laugh.
And only, it seems, did you have a conniption
When your column was found to be missing a caption.

For years the residents of CV were hopin'
That our UCO meetings would be more open.
With your videos of meetings it's now quite apparent
Things in the Village never have been so transparent.

With our Comcast contract in two years to expire,
You knew 'twould be foolish to go down to the wire,
So your Broadband Committee got out the word
That offers by other firms would be heard.

We hired CSI to check out the field,
And what did their contacts and know-how yield?
But a growing company wanting north to expand.
And that's how we met Atlantic Broadband!

Knowing our Village would be quite a prize,
With competing companies feasting their eyes
On our business, we held out for many concessions
Negotiating in numerous sessions,
Until Atlantic Broadband finally beat out the giant,
With all our requests being finally compliant.

So we look forward now in twenty-nineteen
To perhaps the best deal that's ever been seen—
More TV for far less, Internet optional and cheaper,
Same for phone if desired; why, this is a keeper!

Has there ever been a UCO administration that accomplished more?
Let's Continue the Progress!

  2. Thanks for pointing out the advances we have had from Technology Dave. Other communities are prehistoric compared to CV. Keep the DAVE ADVANTAGE. A VALENTINE FOR DAVE.

  4. You're welcome, Dave, and we realize you need a TEAM of compatible people in your administration. No matter your own proficiency, you need UCO personnel who will work together with you, including vice presidents and a treasurer—NOT someone who will be a fly in the ointment, or worse, sabotage what you are doing for the Village. College credits or a degree are not everything. You want capable people, certainly, but preeminently team players who will cooperate for the common good.

    1. Hi Lanny,

The Candidacy of Ed Grossman is a travesty on the body-politic! Please recall that this "Candidate" has disrupted our Delegate Assembly meeting repeatedly for years. Also, he unauthorizedly interfered in our UCO negotiation of the Cable & Broadband Contract at a very critical point, nearly crashing our strategy.

Finally all must remember that he publishes the rabble rousing periodical "The CV Messenger", a recent edition of which likened one of our UCO Officers to a Nazi concentration camp Capo.

There is no possible way that I could work with Mr. Grossman under any conceivable circumstances.
