Slippery Slope?

I noticed in the Advocate an advertisement for pick up of garbage from outside one's door to dumpster for a monthly fee. Most, if not all, Core documents prohibit placing anything on our walkways that provide access to and from units. Notwithstanding the need to keep egress free and clear for safety reasons, do we now open door for other residents to place their garbage outside their door until they next leave the building or otherwise have time to remove garbage to the dumpster? While the advertisement asks the garbage be put out between 7pm and 8 pm, what if the resident will be out for the day? Does it sit outside an entire day, or more awaiting pick up?

  1. The raccoon family wish to thank you for timing of putting trash out, 7-8pm twilight is our favorite raiding time. And so much easier than in dumpster with raccoon bar.

Residents do not wish to look at or trip on trash bags set out.

I guess there is a reason the ad spells it DUMspster (yes they did)

  2. This add should have never been put into the Advocate. How stupid is this? Besides the raccoons, we would have problems with rats, possums and also ants and palmetto bugs. A few years ago our building put out a trap and caught a possum. I am sure if you are sick and not able to empty your garbage a decent neighbor will help you.

  3. Wow! I see the half-page ad on the front page of the Advocate! You guys are right—it will be attracting all the little beasties—maybe even Felix the Cat. Is this LEGAL in the Village? Speak of ill-conceived plans! But who knows, maybe "Door to Dumpster" (And they DID spell it right, Elaine! Where are your glasses?) is a young, enterprising teenager around the corner. Hmmm, he lives on Vista Parkway, around the corner? No late night trips, eh? And pickup STARTS at 8 p.m.? I'll be very interested to see where this goes. My friends up north like to get the Century Village "news" from me. They may get a chuckle out of this one, but I'll wait—the story may get better.

  4. Lanny, the misspell was in the January issue. People who have misspelled in the Reporter index should not be picky.

  5. Just an observation. After many postings on "Quality of Life" issues here at C.V. I have noticed our President steers clear of making comments on such issues. While Dave is on target with many of the "logistical" issues here at C.V., he is conspicuously absent in taking a leadership role on the issues that affect the daily lives of residents.

  6. List please! We are not assisted living, you cannot legislate manners ... we have friends, amenities, transport, great weather, safety, freedom, PBIA. I think you will find everything has been discussed and addressed from coffee machine on up.

  7. I use a laundry service to have my laundry done, and every second week on Wednesday I put my laundry in a big plastic lawn bag outside the front door at 7:30 a.m. for "Joe" to pick up. He has it washed and dried and neatly folded at his laundry facility, then returns it in the afternoon. One morning a neighbor rang the doorbell and asked if I wanted the bag of trash outside the door brought to the dumpster. Lucky me, he asked! (I do put a sticky tag on the bag with my name on it.) Wonder what my chances would be with the laundry if we had the new outside-your-door trash removal service? They have their own blue bags, BUT…..
