WHEN IS A BLOG NOT A BLOG?

At the March 1 delegate assembly, an as-usual angry Myron Solomon accused Dave Israel of using "the blog" to endorse his preferred candidates for office. The only problem with Mr. Solomon's assertion was that "THE blog" he refers to has always been Dave's personal blog! Personal opinions are exactly what you do voice on personal blogs. I'm sorry if the blog has been so informative, so well run, and so helpful regarding Village matters that some folk (including Mr. Solomon himself!) now look upon it as "the official Century Village blog." Mr. Solomon's very charge against Dave's blog unwittingly endorses the blog!

There ARE other blogs about Village matters, some administered by the so-called malcontents. There is no reason any one of them could not have become "THE Village blog" in the eyes of the people. I'll leave it to you to surmise why this has NOT happened.

  1. Agreed. Mr. Israel's informative (the left hand menu has over 40 links to everything and anything about Century Village) blog makes no claim of of representing Century Village. That official status belongs to the UCO Reporter, as stated in every issue's masthead: "OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF UNITED CIVIC ORGANIZATION OF CENTURY VILLAGE, WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA".

  2. Most communities that put anything on the internet generally use a "website" not a blog. The website is generally an advertisement for the community and what it offers to prospective buyers. If it is an interactive site, it will have passwords for each owner for access into the areas deemed for owners only, which could possibly include some kind of blog to ask questions, air out concerns, grievances and suggestions. This will doubtfully come cheap, as the security of the community can be jeopardized if not done right.
This would have to be done by a professional. Requirements should include :
Each Association would have info that would be view-able by anyone, such as bylaws, rules and this section would not be changeable except by the administrator.
Each association would have password enabled access to their "association only" section, which could include their business dealings, accounting etc. just for their association.
a password restricted blog for the complete village, for residents, and only the residents. Once a person sells, or moves away, that password would be deactivated and access would be removed.
As stated earlier, this will not come cheap. The other option is to keep it the way it currently is and save the money. For people that want to just have a place to complain, make suggestions, or speak their minds, they can always start their own blog (like a few of us already have).
