Golf Course Town Meeting

Re: Town Meeting for Information about Golf Course Property
Yesterday I went to the Town Meeting to hear all the information that I could about what is to happen to the now closed golf course. Both sides did credible presentations and I had some questions for each side.
This is when the meeting turned into bedlam (a crazy place) and all control, manners and tolerance ceased. The Judge that was brought in to moderate the meeting was totally useless. I find it hard to believe he ever controlled a courtroom. He did not set guidelines for the Q & A part of the meeting. He did not stop any of the rudeness that happened.
At this point JV took it upon herself and decided to control the meeting herself. She would not allow Mr Waldman, who had been introduced as part of the team but was sitting down in the front row, to answer a question that had been asked. This is when the pro-active committee members started yelling and making derogatory remarks about or to anyone they thought did not agree with them. People were lined up at the microphones supposedly to ask questions but it seemed that most of them came with a printed agenda which they read. At this point people seemed to lose patience and most started leaving.
The meeting became a disgrace to the Village. There is no excuse for the rudeness and yelling that went on. This was not a voting meeting; it was supposed to be an information meeting so people could clarify questions that they had.
The main question that I wanted to ask was: What does the pro-active committee want to do with that land? If is pretty clear that it will never be a golf course again. The Village did not buy that property when the price was reasonable and they had the chance. They themselves talked about a 2 million dollar course restoration somewhere in the area. I do not believe that the people in our village are willing or able to spend that kind of money, let alone buy the property that is not for sale and then put several million dollars into it to turn it into a money losing business.
I hope when the snowbirds come back, they can come to a Town Meeting that would be a help to them and not a free-for-all like yesterdays.

Ditto Mollie.
ReplyDeleteThere were 2 useful presentations. Drew Waldman encouraged people to call who could not get their questions answered. (954) 426-2600 or collect.
The self-appointed ProActive Cmte (PAC) then claimed rules to prevent Jim Waldman from speaking (no-one had told the Waldman's about rules! – Jim came from Cocoanut Creek to answer questions but did not sit on the platform). The meeting then became all about rules instead of INFORMATION, and with PAC hogging the mike, yelling, damaging our hearing. The PACs drowned out the Waldmans - just as Shapkin said they would at the delegate mtg. It was offensive and insulting to the audience and the Waldmans. I went to find information, not to be ashamed of the Village.
They should have had Security usher blowhard Shapkin and his unruly, ignorant mob out of the meeting. This is still America, free speech is imperative for an open society.
ReplyDeleteIf and when there is another presentation , Security should be standing by with muzzles for Shapkin and the mob of cretins he leads.I have been against the development of the golf course but behavior like this makes me ashamed to be a CVer
I have always been proud of living in CV. Not this thursday, I was one of the lucky ones that was able to speak..I couldn't even stay for the end of the meeting because of the RUDENESS of the people and some of the committee.
ReplyDeleteWhat a disgrace. PLEASE be fair to all the people, not just the ones you agree with...One day you might be one of those other people.
I do not understand why all this fuzz about the Waldman's presentation. They have bought this property knowing that it was devoted to be a GOLF COURSE and now for the seconf time they are forcing the issue with Century Village to develop the land to make money.
ReplyDeleteThe closing of the golf course and the removal of the fence are blackmailing actions on their part. Honest brokers would continue to operate the golf course as intented to be and would put up a convincing campaign to change the zoning of the land at the same if so is their intention. For one, whatever the purpose I do not submit to blackmail and I hope CV residents will do the same.
Their approach is questionnable and not honorable at best. Let's get them to abide by the County zoning rules first. Why should we believe them and their promises of a first class development, when they, for the second time, take the law into their hand and try to force down our throat a plan that will at best only produce Cash for them. What began as a "Civilized" presentation,by both parties, well
ReplyDeletereceived by the assembled,UNTIL
various members of the SELF APPOINTED ProActive Committee,
became obnoxious. From all appearances, their goal was to cause
chaos in a crowd of more than 500!
An Utter disgrace!!!!
Their facts & projections,for the
most part incorrect..Very little
research,if any,was done...
I too share in the embarrassment,
expressed by others,on this blog.
The Waldmans refer to their 'stewardship' of the golf course, but we see (as Andre said) the deterioration and closing of the golf course and the careless removal of the fence. I do not excuse that, but how much of this disregard for us has been engendered by the years of insults and deceit of the Shapkin Proactives as the 'face' of the Village to the Waldmans. The Proactives obviously feel entitled to batter whomever they please.
ReplyDeleteThe Proactives claimed to speak for the whole Village, they do NOT. The development process will continue, studies of traffic and security, permits, zoning and so on. If the ProActives find things are not going their way - watch them try to drag the Village into a costly law suit.
