Century Village Can't Afford Another Mistake

1) Unit owners out of their homes for months for no reason!
2) Excuses flowing without foreseeable end!
3) Lawsuits threatened for those who speak out!

Who will pay???

Can we afford another "big Gladstone mistake"

Vote Dave Israel for UCO President!

  1. When person after person got up at the last delegates meeting and told us of their terrible experiences at the hands of Dan Gladstone and First Priority, Dan told us he would "explain all," "letting his pants down," to use his expression, on February 26. The February 26 meeting was a fiasco.

Very little explaining was done, and there was virtually no contrition shown for those who had suffered such brutal treatment. Instead, the meeting from the get-go was all about electing Dan president of UCO.

The handout you got on entering the meeting was not about the First Priority problems. It was a campaign flyer which said almost nothing about Dan's qualifications to be UCO president, but was rather, a total bashing of his opponents—mudslinging if I have ever seen it.

And yet—speak of inconsistency—in his talk Dan said he was AGAINST mudslinging!

People were not allowed to SAY anything at this meeting. They were only allowed to "ask questions," and even this was carried out to the point of being ridiculous. Often, of course, you can't phrase a question without first making at least a COUPLE of declarative sentences; but one woman near me who only began to give her NAME couldn't get this out before she was cut off mid-stream by Dan saying, "What is the QUESTION?"

I am sorry to say, this meeting was a big disappointment to me. It did nothing to make me think Dan Gladstone would be a good choice for UCO president.

  2. It is all well and good to say it was a mistake. I am sorry. I am no longer involved with 1st Priority but what is he doing to fix his mistake? His words mean nothing!

Both Lanny's opinion and Grace's opinion are well taken.

When I saw Ken Graff videotaping the meeting called by Dan Gladstone, I expected to be able to view the meeting in its entirety. The editing of the video to show repeated statements of "it was a mistake" was very creative Ken, but I think it only adds to the continued mudslinging that myself and others would like to see come to an end. I realize the same techniques are used in political advertisements for public office, but I think it's time that we began to act like a community of caring and sensitive neighbors who want the best for one another. Howie's posts were removed, the clip of his antics at the Delegate Assembly were removed, and I think, Ken, it would be a step in the right direction if you would consider deleting your video as well or show the whole meeting.

I speak not only as an Administrator of the Century Village Blog, but as a Blog member as well. A comment was made earlier that "the Reporter is a house organ". I'm beginning to feel that our Blog is being used in a somewhat similar fashion. We are better than that!

Mistakes were most certainly made, but it may be time to start coming together and to support whichever leaders of UCO are elected; and for the remaining days prior to the election, for each of us to act in a more responsible and sensitive manner.

  4. Hi Randall,
    February 27, 2010 11:53 AM,

By chance did you see the flyer that was handed out at Dan's meeting?

Perhaps you might opine on the wisdom of publication of that flyer here in this BLOG; or perhaps in the UCO Reporter!

I have been thinking about it overnight and would appreciate your informing me as to your thoughts on this gem of literature, which, among other things, identifies me as:

"The King of Lies, Deception and Defamation"

Better yet, perhaps the Candidate himself might opine on this handout.

  5. Dave,
No, I did not see the flier at the meeting as I came in late a had to leave early. I'm sure I would not be pleased by having read such 'literature'.
Diverse ideas are healthy and promote growth, but I see no need in individuals being hurtful to one another with malicious intent.

  6. Kudos Randall

We seem to have heard from a Statesman’s, rather than a patrician political, viewpoint.

Regardless the election outcome, we still need UCO to manage the aspects of this Village that remain uncontrollable by the 309 individual Associations.

I am concerned the rift created by the mudslinging, will leave a sinkhole we will have great difficulty bridging for the good of this Community.

Traditionally, post election periods have been described as “honeymoons”, but this one might become “divorce”, unfortunately.

I would hope both of the Candidates would ask their supporters to stop the relentless bashing and criticizing that we are all just plain tired of seeing and hearing. I realize the Candidates may not be individually responsible for the content of the bashing, but neither have they written here that they would support a cessation either. Let’s focus on the qualifications, strengths and vision for this Village.

  7. Dave: You are the only near term hope for better governace at UCO. But even if you win, there will still be a hard time ahead. Our 309 associations have a bad history of not working together. Some of our individual associations here are in collapse and will need state receivers before they implode. It will be a daunting task.

  8. Randall...just for the record the video clip I posted was not from the meeting Dan called at the clubhouse. I will not post any video from that meeting.

  9. Ken,
By the time I had realized that Dan was wearing a different shirt (on the film clip)from the one I saw him wearing at the meeting, it was too late to recant my statement. How does Dave say it... oh that's right, Mea Culpa.
Anyway, I gave it a shot at convincing you that all are aware of Dan's mistake(s), and that your video clips were just another, though creative, jab during election time, and that maybe a cease-fire was opportune. Assumptions will get ya every time... I'll work on that

    Respectfully,
    Randall

  10. Randall, I don't think that Ken's clip is mudslinging he is just showing that Dan is quick to say it was a mistake. He is blaming this whole mess on the mistake of the insurance company. A real scapegoat. Never has Dan said he would try to fix the mess he was an accomplice in creating with 1st Priority. He must have known that people were out of their condos too long and yet he was still making sure that 1st Priority was the company to call. He has done nothing for those people and it has nothing to do with him running for President. It has to do with him as the 'insurance man' that we went to for help. But as far as his running for president of UCO it is also in indication of what he will do for the village as a whole.

  11. I can only conclude, Dan, agreed
with the contents of his "Handouts"otherwise he would
    have prohibited their distribution.
    All I heard is "I", "I", "I"....
as my Sainted Mother would say.
    "Self praise is no recommendation"
His attitude in general leaves much to be desired..He is NOT
    Presidential material!

  12. Dave needs to remove one or two Blog Administrators to keep that from happening again.

  13. Hi PlCruise,
    March 1, 2010 1:48 PM,

Our Admins., like our unit owners, have a broad diversity of views. They clearly do not think alike.

Trust me when I say that they are smart and strong willed people who do not necessarily agree with me.

That is exactly why I asked them to help with the BLOG.

If I arbitrarily removed anyone, I would be guilty of exactly what I find lacking in our UCO Reporter; reasonable editorial independence and judgement.

If elected, I would hope to develop Committees, loaded with those of broad diversity, wide experience, technical expertise, open mindedness and judgement.

Cross your fingers and in three days and a wake up; we will hear form the electorate..Vox Populi Vox Dei

  14. Dear Bloggers and Admins.,
I should have double-checked my facts regarding a comment removal. I received a call from Dan complaining that his comment was removed. He did not comment in Ken's post, but posted a separate response. It is still there. Please forgive my hasteful response, as I must not have been thinking clearly by taking things on face value. I'm now certain that my prescribed pain medication has apparently taken a toll on my senses. Sorry again folks!
    Regretfully,
    Randall

P.S. I notice that my 'removal privileges' (of other author's posts)have been suspended. I hope my error in judgement did not cause others to lose their privileges as well. I have no need to have my privileges restored at this time.

  15. But, did I mention, it's wonderful to have had them restored! I'm speechless (if you can believe that!).

  16. Hi Randall,
    March 1, 2010 4:05 PM,

I am not aware that you were/are removed as an Admin.

I just looked, and everything seems ok.
Please advise if you encounter any glitches in BLOG Ops.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  17. O.K. Dave, let's try this one out for size, since you apparently haven't checked your email at this time and I've been working for hours "backtracing the deletions". It goes something like this:

    Hi Dave, March 1st,2010 / 10:39 pm

Regarding my claim that someone had removed Dan's post (temporarily):

By going to Dashboard, click on 'Edit Posts' and you will see that "Draft" appears in the center of the following three out of the last fifty posts. On 2/13/10, Elaine returned Peter Amato's post to the Blog which someone had removed as follows:

    WHO REMOVED PETER AMATO'S POST?
I would like to know which administrator removed Mr. Amatos Post and why???
Is the blog starting to censor???

    Your BLOGMEISTER adds.

I also ask who took down Peter Amato's Post. There was agreement to consult on removals; except in the case of very inflammatory  material.

    EXHIBIT #2
On 2/19/10, an Administrator (or 'Hacker' as you put it) had removed Bettie L's Post "March UCO Reporter". It remains deleted. Your response was as follows:

    TO ALL ADMINISTRATORS AND BLOGGERS
    Hi all,
Recently we have had a few cases of hacking on our Web Site. Items were removed and/or inserted into existing Posts without permission of the persons who originally Posted. This is very bad form and a violation of Cyberspace Etiquette, and in some cases could even be dangerous.
In attempting to investigate the source of the hacking some Administrators had their privileges temporarily removed. I take full responsibility for this action. The investigation has been inconclusive as to the causative agent, which could be a number of sources, including an Administrator or a third party hacker.

This was the 2nd post labelled "Draft" in italics.

Again, on 2/28/10 Dan Gladstone's post did indeed disappear for a few hours. I blamed myself publicly, because I believed that I had to have been mistaken. Thanks to the 'restoration of my privileges' (and I know when I have "trash-cans next to each post for deletions... and when I don't), I was able to do a little digging and discovered the following trail which relates to each of the three deleted posts as follows:

    Dave,
    Check it out on your own. Three "draft" labels in fifty posts, and each one was deleted. Barbara Cornish returned one - P. Amato's;

The "MARCH UCO REPORTER" post deleted completely, and forever.

And Dan's Post returned (Without the original title as viewable in the remnants above. Administrators only can find these 'anomalies'.

I've sent the same emails to "most" administrators to check my work. At least the ones I know personally. You once told me "Do my Research". You're turn. Vheck you email!

    Respectfully,
    Randall

  18. Actually, Elaine re-posted Peter Amato's and Barbara complained of its removal... minor error
