Election
-
I would like to thank everyone involved in the election on Friday, March 2, 2012. From Dave who chose me for the chairmanship, to the people who gave me background information and advice, I thank you. I did not always agree with what you told me, but be assured that I weighed every thing thoroughly and thoughtfully.
To the people involved in the actual election, from handing out ballots to counting and tallying, I thank you. To the people who did themselves and the candidates they represented a service by acting properly, I thank you.
I congratulate the winners and thank the non-winners for giving their time and effort to serve all the residents of Century Village.
I do not want to name names, as I fear leaving someone out, but you know who you are and please accept my gratitude.
Good luck to everyone and let us all have a successful year for the benefit of all the residents.

Hi Lanny,

TWO MORE YEARS - THANKS TO ONE AND ALL
-
What's Past is Prologue *
-
The people have spoken and honored me once again with two more years in Office as UCO President.
I must first thank the small dedicated group of volunteers on my Campaign Committee. They carried the load and they delivered the bacon.
-
Our first two years have been dotted with a number of advances in service to our unit owners, and I assure you all that there is an equally aggressive agenda for the next two years. This agenda will be developed and executed by my team of fellow Officers, and our UCO volunteers. The keynote of my second term will be, as it was for my first term "Service, not Power"! Those who lose sight of this mantra and get it backwards, are bound to fail!
-
In order to accomplish great deeds, one needs great volunteers; I call upon all of you who read this who may possess important skills that might be turned to public service, come to UCO and volunteer; we are particularly in need of computer literate folks to work on expanding IT services. So, step up and help UCO to move forward in service to our Village.

CONGRATULATIONS
-
Congratulations to all the people who have won their positions via our election process. I wish you all the best in the next couple of years. Should you need me for anything I am here to help in anyway possible.
Also Mr. Israel I did not put any letters nor did I authorize anyone to put any letters on any doors. If I did my name would have surely been on them as was the case when I posted the articles on the blog and in the UCO Reporter.
Again Congrats on your re-election.

UCO ELECTIONS CERTIFIED VOTE TOTALS - MARCH 2, 2012
The chart shows the Certified Election results. Additionally, since Dom Guarnagia, who was on the Executive Board, and subsequently filled out the unexpired term of Sal Bummolo as Vice President; the eleventh highest total for Executive Board in the chart above, Mr Phillip Shapkin, will be on the Executive Board for 1 year.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO HOLD OFFICE IN UCO
Hi all,
How observant are you, some months ago, in the UCO Reporter, a so called letter to the Editor was planted which in effect laid down a new requirement to hold office in UCO. Namely, "Glad Handing" in the Clubhouse, or anywhere else on Campus. This appears to involve "being seen" in the lobby, at Club meetings Etc. shaking hands with everyone, with big false smiles on your face. "look at me" this Candidate is saying, "you know who I am"; implying that this is reason to vote for him!!
-
Of course, in the next millisecond, this same Candidate may be seen browbeating and intimidating bus riders, for the cardinal sin of desiring to board the bus for an excursion trip!!
-
I on the other hand, do not commandeer UCO vehicles to junket about Campus "being seen" , "pressing the flesh" and barking orders like a newly minted Army corporal.
-
Managing UCO business, requires hard knowledge of Law and Bylaw, and the ability to do the research necessary to actually solve problems. When I first took Office as UCO President, UCO Operations was in the Dark Ages as regards Information Technology. Now we have emerged full blown in the 21st. Century, and we continue to move forward.
-
Vote for continued progress, deny the Glad-Hander and the Rage-monger and send him home forever; vote for Dave Israel for UCO President!

Unsigned Accusations: Seriously?
-
What a disappointment! Yesterday at the Candidates Forum, we had a Century Village to be proud of: adults in the room candidly asking and answering questions. Today we get a letter in the mail full of accusations dropped at our doors from people without the decency or the courage to sign it. Whoever you are, you destroyed your credibility. If you are ashamed to sign your name, you must know your claims don't hold water.
David, those of us who know you and have followed your administration know that this letter contains distortions and inaccuracies. They aren't worth addressing. We all need to ask ourselves if we want to vote for people who will stand behind what they say. Truth, indeed. People who tell the truth sign their names.
Since the letter included a list of candidates to vote for with Frank Cornish's name at the top of the list, we might assume that Frank either wrote this or supports it. If not, he should refute it. Anonymous letters are not the way good, credible candidates communicate or allow themselves to be represented.
Unsigned direct mail has no credibility and neither do candidates who resort to it.

My letter was not very visible in the UCO Reporter so here it is again.

As elections approach I want to say that Dave Israel's high personal integrity is the bedrock of our village. He is not seen a great deal in public, he is not out glad handing, but we know he is there for endless hours in UCO and at Delegate meetings. To know him is to have the greatest confidence in anything with which he is associated. He helps every and all associations, mine would have been much poorer without Dave's advice. UCO staff appreciate his outstanding abilities and his willingness to assist with any and all tasks.
The hate mail in the village and the malcontents that harass UCO are truly loathsome compared to Dave's steady personal character and intelligence.

UNSIGNED SCURRILOUS NOTES SHOWING UP ON UNIT OWNER DOORS
-
Hi all,
I have read unsigned (actionable) false statements about me that are being distributed in the Village; in a last minute desperate attempt to garner votes. While I suppose this is de rigueur in Century Village, I wish to ask you all to give such unsigned tripe the disregard it deserves!
Look at the record, and vote for continued accomplishments and reduction in costs; send the glad-hander and rage monger home for good on March 2, 2012. Give me, Dave Israel, two more years as a proven commodity who clearly identifies himself on election brochures.
I further call upon both candidates for President; Frank Cornish and Frank LaFountain to categorically repudiate on this Website, this trash being hung on the doors of our unit owners.

The good people of Century Village know and appreciate the work and benefits from Dave for the past 2 years. They will not vote for the malcontents who spread poison and HAVE NEVER COME UP WITH ONE USEFUL IDEA. They will not vote for quitters or anonymous mudslingers. They will not vote for those who enabled expensive disasters. We love ya Dave and all you do.

A cursory reading of the UCO Bylaws reveals the following:
-
"All Officers of UCO must be members of UCO, and be domiciled and reside in Century Village, West Palm Beach, Florida, for a period of not less than nine (9) months of each year in which they serve. "
-
"All Officers of UCO must be members of UCO, and be domiciled and reside in Century Village, West Palm Beach, Florida, for a period of not less than nine (9) months of each year in which they serve. "
Members of UCO, are all those who are unit owners.
-
So, what if Dorothy was elected, and then her unit sold while she was in Office, since she would no longer own property here in CV, she would no longer be a"member of UCO", and thus not be eligible to serve!
-
Dorothy: do the right thing, withdraw from the election, or at least explain on this BLOG what you were thinking in your planning for the future, when you placed your name as a candidate!
-
Considering these issues, Vote for Ed Black for Treasurer, he is highly qualified, a proven Treasurer, and presents no possible conflict with our Bylaws.

Joy Vestal and Fausto Fabbro
Remember these new names Joy for Recording Secretary and Fausto for Executive Board. Joy writes those carefully balanced and researched articles in the UCO Reporter, a new level of competence IMHO. Fausto's good influences in the NW corner of CV make me look forward to his ideas.
Want new blood - here is some. Fausto means 'Lucky', and Joy means, umm.. joy, we need both.

AN INSTRUCTIVE FORUM
-
Monday’s first-of-its-kind Century Village political forum was well run and instructive, I thought. Kudos to Roberta Fromkin, her team, and guest moderator Susan Bucher. Some of the questions were answered forthrightly, and some only partially responded to. That's as good as it gets in US presidential candidate debates.

Personally, I thought Dave Israel’s replies, sometimes of necessity longer than those of his opponents, showed his experience with how things actually work and an intelligent weighing of considerations. For example, when it was suggested UCO “take care” of more things for beleaguered associations, Dave advised unit owners to beware the slippery slope of associations ceding too much power to UCO. And again, his pointing out how the contract with a vendor such as the previous bus company, cannot be ended on the vice presidential level.
A thing I am most concerned about is who would carry on with the computer-related advances Dave has begun if he is not reelected. It is easy to say one would form a committee. Even if Dave continues in office, I am concerned about his training staff who can and will do the things he has done, particularly the Information Forward Initiative, the CV Blog, and the computerization of records.
There were some sharp (in the good sense) exchanges. There were also exchanges where a candidate said he agreed with what another candidate had said, which was refreshing. And there was humor at times, as when Joy Vestal said at the closing that she only wished the chairs had been softer. The audience was remarkably well behaved, as Susan Bucher attested to.
All in all, I think it was a very good forum and well done on the part of all.
