Reach out and touch someone

This week I received a very kind note from a new acquaintance. I won’t get into the details of the note because the point I want to make is about the note itself rather than its contents.

For various reasons I had been feeling a little down lately. Now I’m not talking about an attack of depression that required immediate intervention by a mental health professional or even medication. I’m talking about those feelings you get from thinking too much about stuff associated with growing older, feeling alone, longing for times gone by, and probably feeling way too sentimental about things I can't change. Those feelings are my demons.

Anyway, back to the note. Rather unexpectedly, this week I received a very kind note from a new acquaintance. The note itself was brief but its contents really picked me up.

The fact that someone had reached out to me with a few kind words changed my whole perspective on things, and I felt a lot better.

I've been thinking how funny it is that something so simple can have such a big impact. I believe AT&T had it right back in the 1980’s when Cliff Robertson was their point man. Remember their “reach out and touch someone” campaign? (YouTube link below)

By the way, this isn't a commercial for AT&T. However, the point I’m rambling about is, maybe someone you know would really appreciate hearing from you. I know the note I received sure picked me up.
