BUSSES - TRANSPORTATION
ALL BUSSES WILL BE SHUT DOWN WHILE WAITING AT THE CLUB HOUSE starting APRIL 15th.
We are trying to conserve on the emissions and also maybe cut our fuels costs,
which run about $9,000.00 a month. we must all try to do our part.
THANK YOU!
Barbara Cornish, Chair Transportation

I applaud your decision. The fumes were terrible when you walked on the sidewalk beside the busses. I held by breath not to breathe them in. The savings on the fuel should also be significant. Good work Barbara and Dave!
ReplyDeleteGood move , should have been done years ago.
ReplyDeleteAll THANKS should be directed
ReplyDeleteto our new President Dave Israel
and I quote his platform:
"SERVICE TO THIS COMMUNITY
IS THE HALLMARK OF MY
PRESIDENCY." He is a man of
his words.
Dave's support of this issue was
ReplyDeleteobiviously instrumental in it happening...this particular issue,
has been tossed around for many
months, certainly since I was appointed as Sect'ry in Mar of 09.
The Committee at that time consisted of a majority of riders..
we-non riders, were over-ruled..
regardless of the consequences to
our community ( Air quality &
financial)They did however manage
to institue a "Summer Schedule"
which should be resumed in the near future. Barbara & Frank are
to be congratulated for their
indurance - all these months -
long before she became "Chair"
to finally accomplish this monumental task!
Current member,former Sect'ry..

I have read and was advised by the company that produced my automobile that the engine will not be damaged by turning the engine off when stopped. Several authorities on this subject stated that if you are parking for more than two minutes, it is best to turn the engine off.
ReplyDeleteI will be interested to learn over the balance of the year how much in fuel cost is saved by having the bus engines shut down while waiting at the clubhouse. I guess Dave Israel has already calculated that a lot will be saved.
ReplyDeleteUnless the buses have diesel engines, I suppose the reason for continuing to run the engines was to keep the bus interiors air-conditioned. I would be interested to know how long the buses stay reasonably cool after the engines have been shut off, and how quickly they cool once the engines have been turned on. I'm sure our elderly folk look forward to getting on a cool bus. Some get on the bus at the clubhouse and then have to wait a few minutes for the bus to leave.
This is undoubtedly a cost versus comfort decision.
Diesel engines should normally be kept running, I believe. I think it is more fuel efficient—to a point, of course. That is why you will see diesel truck idling for long periods. Diesel-powered vehicles are especially smelly, though.

ReplyDeleteYour article was very interesting
but what puzzles me is the time
it was written. It states:
April 19 12:40AM
My time right now is:
April 19 10:11PM
Dear Nutmegger,
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what puzzles you about the time my article (I assume you mean my Comment before yours) was written. Apparently I wrote it after midnight Sunday, which would have been 12:40 am on Monday, the 19th. Yours, which followed mine, seems to have been written many hours later, on the same Monday, but in the evening, at 10:11 pm.
Does that explain, or is there something else amiss I am not getting?
Sometimes I burn the midnight oil, but the real midnight oil burner around here, as I'm sure you know, is Dave Israel.
I enjoyed meeting you in the aisle at Publix the other day!
