This Is our Village

C O P S

On several occasions, my attention has been drawn during mid to later afternoon hrs.,
while returning home, along Haverhill Road, from Okeechobee Blvd., to the East Gate
Entrance, of the village, of one of the above cars, exiting the Babie's R Us, shopping center, failing to use signals, both on Haverhill, and entering the Village,
driving in the center of both lanes, after passing the resident's entrance, gradually
easing over to the right lane ( 4 corner stop ) finally using the signals, indicating
a R turn, without a full stop ( slowing down ) and continuing along the East Drive
onto the North Drive.. It has always been my impression these Volunteers, were
there to set an example, as well as assist if needed....If they cannot implement
the basic road rules, as second nature, they should be "retired"

  2. They probably should not be driving at all! Have you seen how old some of these people are! Just like the DMV they should be required to pass a driving test. Also, what are they doing driving outside of CV?

  3. What are they doing driving outside of CV? I have seen them parked in front of Publix, Dunkin Donuts, Dollar General, Post Office, etc... Maybe they were out of CV to go to the pump for a refill???

  4. I appreciate the "humor" of my
fellow residents...however, I agree re-testing is vital for those
who wish to continue this service
in our community..As for their sightings, outside of the village,
other than filling up the gas tanks, a representative of the
    Sheriff's Dept.,at yesterday's
    Security meeting,indicated that
the presence of COPS cars in various shopping centers, contributed to the safety of the
shoppers..so that may be one explanation...however, coming out
from one of the areas mentioned,
it appears rather obivious they were engaged in personal affairs.

  5. I must add that almost all communities have COP units. It may be that the units seen are not all from our CV. Betty and & I drove when we were younger and one of the luncheons we attended had approx. 300 COP volunteers from this area. We drove the 11pm to 2am shift and it was amazing how many walkers were out that late

  6. Ken:
In my particular case, I was two cars behind as it approached the
    Haverhill entrance, and directly
behind as it went through the
residents' gate...as for a an update, if you will, this afternoon
    a car,driven by a male,who appeared
to be sitting at the very edge of his seat( I know that does not seem
possible) passed each other, on the
East drive ( I was headed North-
he in the opposite direction) my
impression-he had difficulty seeing. Thank you both for your
    service to our community..and
thank you both once more for knowing when to "walk away" and
not put yourselves or anyone else
    at risk!

  7. Sign me up for cops , how long is a shift?

3 hour shifts. I firmly believe that the COP is what makes this Village as safe as it is. I also know that more volunteers are needed badly. Back when we drove, it was forbidden to drive alone. There had to be 2 to a patrol, and YES! there are needed younger COPs
