New Gates & Locks

I went to Dorchester pool yesterday and saw that there was a new gate with a new lock on the top of the gate. Someone told me to open the gate you pull up on top and it opens. Another told me to pull down to open. With the gate still open I tried both ways to no avail. This morning I went back with camera in hand. Two women showed me that when closed you push down and shove gate open. One woman needed both hands to push down. I was told it was a new law about locks. Okay, so what was wrong with the old gate, nothing. This is smaller so the cart doesn't come in with the pool maintenance person. I am strong and not too short. How does the person in the mechanical wheel chair get in, the person who needs the cane to steady themselves, the short person? Oh, they don't need to come to the pool anymore as they can't get in or out. We have some of the above who come to Dorchester. Who picked this particular lock? Certainly no one who was thinking of the elderly or infirmed who may live here and want to go to the pool. I don't think the law said, buy this particular lock and what was wrong with the fastener on the last gate? It could have been moved up a bit higher so all the children who are running around here loose cannot reach it. What a waste of money and no thought to the person who is elderly and infirmed!!!!!!
