That's the two dollar question? Is the owner required to insure his apartment and your personal property? No. Is the landlord going to replace your personal property if a fire occurs? That is the reponsibility of the tenant (to purchase tenant's insurance). Would a reasonable person refuse to protect his or her safety because a landlord states that the batteries are the tenant's expense? Look to a standard lease agreement to see if it is mentioned specifically or if such safety precaution is inferred.
ReplyDeleteWould it be in the best interest of the Association to make rounds every six months and replace any discharged batteries? I would think so, and I have purchased such batteries for each unit. Who is responsible is not as important a question as should the association make such an effort for the benefit of the residents and to protect the association as a whole.
