Is this true?
This morning (Friday, Dec. 30, our scheduled day) when I went to the Clubhouse to make an appointment for the box for my second TV to be installed, I was told that it had to be installed next Monday, Jan. 3, Comcast's next business day, or I would have to pay for the installation. When I protested because of commitments on Monday, a supervisor came over and said I could get around this rule only by coming in another day to register, when I was going to be free the following business day for the tech to come out. So I left and plan to go in next Wednesday, because Thursday is open on my calendar. Is this true what I was told, and should I have been forced to make two trips to register as I was?

Hi Lanny,
ReplyDeleteComcast has contracted this job out to another Company, and they have thousands of them to install; they are in fact stored in a new POD behind UCO.
They are on a strict Timeline and they send teams to do entire buildings at one time. Thus they have minimal flexibility.
That is why we started advertising this rollout months in advance.
In addition to the option you were given, I believe you could go to the Comcast office at 1400 North Point Blvd.here in WPB and pick up the little DTA box. If you need a map to the site let me know and I can Email it to you or you may pick up a copy at UCO.
It is very simple to install.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Dave, I hope we are not driving you crazy with these questions about the cable box. But, here is another one.
ReplyDeleteI have the box from the first go around last year. I am a snowbird and will be coming down mid January but will be leaving prior to the date of 1/25 assigned to Kent N.
#1 - Can I go to the club house prior to 1/25 and not create havoc?
#2 - Can I avoid the clubhouse and just go to the Comcast office at the address you gave? If so, will presenting my ID to those folks do the trick?
So, at the end of the day we will have two cable boxes, the one from last year and the new one, correct?
Thanks, Dave
It's no biggie, Dave. I'll solve it as I said by going in again next Wed., when I know I have the next day (Thursday) free. I had simply missed the point that one had to leave the business day FOLLOWING the appointment day free for the installation to take place. Thank you for kind offer of alternatives.

If you can not go on your assigned date, you can try to go on any other date, but the message I get is they do not guarantee installation under that scenario. I spoke to one of the techs today, and he stated that they "would try" to accomodate "out of appointment" applicants.

Yes!

Yes, this is true, BUT the DTA box now being rolled out is not the same as the Set Top Converter you received last year. The DTA box only provides reception of channels 2 - 99. This box is important to have for second and third TVs, because sometime in 2011 all channels in this range (2-99) will be converted to digital format; save 2 - 22 and 96, 97, 98 and 99

Hi Nut,
ReplyDeleteDecember 30, 2010 8:12 PM,
I do not have the schedule available to look at, but if that is what is printed for Chatham K-U; then that is correct!
The schedule is in the UCO Reporter this month as it was last month.

One more question please. I have but ONE TV. It is HD ready. Do I need a DTA box?
ReplyDeleteHi mllwpbfl,
ReplyDeleteDecember 31, 2010 10:48 AM,
Do you have a Set Top Coverter connected to your TV?
Dave Israel
Dear David,
ReplyDeleteYes, I have an "Explorer" set top box on top of my HD-ready TV... Comcast tells me I do not need a DTA box... Is this correct?
Thank you for your patience...
Hi mllwpbfl,
ReplyDeleteJanuary 2, 2011 5:31 AM,
You will not need a DTA box on any TV which already has an STC (Set Top Converter).
The DTA is only required on a second or third TV which do not have an STC.
On those TVs, the DTA will provide reception of Channels 2 - 99 only.
