Comcast phone
Hey Mike
On the back of the comcast modem box there is a small pin hole. Insert a PEN into that hole and that will turn off all that is connected to the modem. Lights will flicker and return to the on position and then the phone should be working.
Hopefully anyway. Other wise maybe comcast did not connect the phone line correctly. I am surprised that you have internet without the phone working.
Good luck.

QUESTION: Why can we not get all of the channels we used to receive from our Cable TV Provider, Comcast? We have been told there is a switch to Digital programming – but we are not sure what that means?
-
ANSWER: Comcast is in the process of "migrating" channels from analog to digital, which means that cable customers will soon have to have a "box" on every TV to view all of the cable TV programming that may be included with your homeowner association dues. The reason Comcast is migrating the channels is to be able to offer more High Definition channels.
-
Many Associations are in the process of renegotiating its existing bulk Comcast contract to provide each resident a solution. If your Association has not renegotiated, the equipment is available on a retail basis.
-
To understand what you will need when the Analog to Digital migration is completed, you first need to understand the equipment Comcast offers and its retail pricing. While the retail pricing may be different in the market where you live, this will still provide an explanation of the equipment. Comcast charges a fee for each receiver and an additional fee for High Definition service (HD) and Digital Video Recording service (DVR). Comcast offers four types of equipment with different pricing:
-
• Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) at a retail cost of $1.99 per month
o The DTA will provide access to Limited Basic, Expanded Basic, and Digital Starter Service. You will not have access to Music channels, Video on Demand, the interactive program guide, or premium channels that you may subscribe to on a retail basis on a TV that has only a DTA.
-
Digital Standard Receiver at a retail cost of $6.95 per month
o The Digital Standard Receiver will provide access to all channels in addition to access to Music channels, Video on Demand, the interactive program guide, and all premium channels for which you subscribe.
• HD Digital Receiver with HD Service at a retail cost of:
-
o $6.95 for the receiver and $7.95 for HD Service.
o This will provide access to everything a Digital Standard Receiver provides in addition to the ability to view programs in High Definition, a better quality picture available if you also own a High Definition TV.
• HD-DVR Digital Receiver at a retail cost of:
o $6.95 for the receiver and $15.95 for the High Definition Recorder Service
This will provide access to everything the HD Digital Receiver provides, with the ability to record programs.
-
Each subscriber will receive a letter from Comcast advising when the Analog to Digital conversion will be completed. Until then you can continue to enjoy the programming you presently receive without the need for additional equipment.

Is this true?
This morning (Friday, Dec. 30, our scheduled day) when I went to the Clubhouse to make an appointment for the box for my second TV to be installed, I was told that it had to be installed next Monday, Jan. 3, Comcast's next business day, or I would have to pay for the installation. When I protested because of commitments on Monday, a supervisor came over and said I could get around this rule only by coming in another day to register, when I was going to be free the following business day for the tech to come out. So I left and plan to go in next Wednesday, because Thursday is open on my calendar. Is this true what I was told, and should I have been forced to make two trips to register as I was?

Question re new cable scramblers about to be rolled out
I have two question for Dave or the Cable Chair. I’m very confused as far as these new scrambler boxes go in January.
1. I have two old television sets and they both have a Comcast digital box right now. Will I need the additional scramblers for these old TV’s if I already have boxes on them?
No!
2. I have a new HD television. I have a Comcast box on that new TV. Will I need this new scrambler for my new HD television in addition to the Comcast box.
No!
This has probably been asked several times and I apologize in advance for the repeat question.
Thank you so much to Dave and all the hard workers of UCO and a happy, healthy New Year to all!

Reminder
The Comcast cable box in your unit remains the property of Comcast. Don't believe me? Ask UCO. If you move out of CV, bring the box to the UCO office. It won't work in your new location.

A Big Lemon For Comcast
I would like to throw a whole lemon tree at Comcast. I have no phone service nor Internet. I am in the cloubhouse on WIFI. I don't know if we are on Comcast here but if so then it is a business account. I was just told there was a problem in my area. It seems there are also lucky subscribers in my area, whatever that means. When this is over I will ask for a credit and investigate going back to a real phone service. Comcast phone is no bargain.

COMCAST CABLE
David:
With all the money that ESPN is getting from Century Village I would like to
know why we cannot get ESPNU. Today I wanted to watch my UCONN team but could
not because it was on ESPNU. Two weeks ago all the GATOR fans could not watch
the game because again it was on ESPNU. My son in Connecticut gets to watch
all these games because he gets ESPNU. WHY CAN'T WE GET IT. I will tell you
one thing and that is when MARCH MADNESS starts it better not be on ESPNU because
I know that Mike and I will raise holy hell to say the least. I may be a female
but I am a BIG....BIG....SPORTS FAN WHEN IT COME TO MY TEAMS. I would like an
answer about ESPNU and don't tell me that if I want that channel I HAVE TO PAY
FOR IT. COMCAST IS MAKING A LOT OF MONEY OFF OF CENTURY VILLAGE......TELL THEM
TO GIVE US ESPNU IN THE BIG CONTRACT THAT YOU MADE WITH COMCAST CABLE.

ANTICIPATED DIGITAL CONVERSION IS NEARLY HERE
Hi all,
We are advised by Comcast Cable that the conversion to digital of most of the channels from 2 - 99 (Limited basic) will be implimented on January 26, 2011.
There will be about 25 channels remaining in analog mode; all others in the range up to channel 99 will require a Digital Terminal Adaptor (DTA) to be installed on the line; or, of course a standard Set Top Converter - RNG 100 or higher.
The rollout of these DTA's, up to two free boxes per unit, will commence on or about December 27, 2010 through January 25, 2011.
A schedule will be published shortly.

Let's NOT add HBO channels
I want to put my plug in for the Village’s NOT accepting Comcast’s latest offer for adding the HBO channels. I understand this will come up for vote this Friday (October 1) at the delegates meeting. The Executive Board by vote advises against it.
Comcast formerly offered the addition of eight HBO channels for $5.71 ($5.00 plus tax and fees) per month per unit. This was turned down twice by the delegate assembly. Now Comcast has sweetened the pot by saying they will give everyone the first five months of HBO free, plus throw in approximately $39,000 for the Village to use as it wishes.
This $39,000 looks good until you divide it by 7000, the approximate number of units in the Village, and realize it effectively amounts to only $5.57 per unit. Yes, the $39,000 can be used for anything, and people will say, “Boy, we sure could use it for this or for that.” But in terms of any further relief it would give to us re cable TV costs, it’s like Comcast is saying, “Okay, instead of giving you only the first five months of HBO free, we’ll give you six months.” This is a drop in the bucket when one considers that there are 9 years remaining in our 10-year Comcast contract.
Our 10-year contract provides for a 5% increase every year after the first year. Our monthly per-unit rate in 2010 was artificially low because when the 10-year contract was negotiated, we got a “signing bonus.” Some of this was set aside, on advice of attorney, in case we should need it to pay taxes later. A significant portion of the remainder was used to make the 2010 cable TV cost less for every unit. It was NOT used, spread out, to reduce the cost per unit for all 10 years of the contract.
If we sign onto the latest HBO offer, our cable TV cost per unit will undergo THREE increases in 2011: the increase from the artificially-low 2010 rate to the original, “true” 2010 rate; the HBO increase (after the “freebie” months); and the added five percent, which applies across the board to everything.
As pointed out at the Executive Board meeting, the old HBO channels ran the same movie for a month. This is so chintzy! So we get eight channels instead of three—of these, at least one is a Spanish channel, which is nice for the Spanish speaking but reduces the total to, at the most, seven channels for the English-only speaking.
As was further pointed out at the Executive Board meeting, our snowbirds (who constitute nearly half the Village) pay for cable TV year round, which is burden enough on them. Accepting the HBO offer will only add to their burden. When we vote, especially since most of them are not now here, I suggest we keep them in mind, and keep in mind also those who can barely keep their heads financially above water.
I think the Cable TV Committee did the best job it could in negotiating the new contract over a year ago and deserves our thanks. But I am for drawing the line at adding HBO. If I am wrong in any of the data presented here, please correct me. Thanks.

YOGI BERRA MOVIE
If you were a fan of the old New York Yankees and would like to watch a heartwarming movie (more a documentary) on the life of Yogi Berra, you can do so for free on your Century Village Cable TV now. Turn to the On-Demand channel and click on Free Movies. Next, click on the M-Z listing and go through the list to the end, where you will find “Yogi Berra.” The movie, 67 minutes long, is about Yogi’s life from when he was a youngster growing up in St. Louis through his years with the New York Yankees as a player, coach and manager. You will meet his family, his boyhood friends, and many fellow ballplayers. Billy Crystal and Bob Costa pay tribute to Yogi, as do many others. There are many "Berraisms" (malapropisms), such as his famous "It's de ja vu all over again," which will amuse you and endear the man to you. This is the best thing I have seen on Yogi Berra. I have no idea how long it will be offered on the On-Demand channel. It was on last night, when I watched it, and it is still listed today.
