BLOG NAME TO CHANGE

-
Hi all,
I have been advised by W.P.R.F., Inc. that their legal department wants the Century Village brand name to be removed from the BLOG.

It is not a real problem, but I would like to ask all of our BLOG members to suggest new names for the BLOG in the Comment Stream.

One idea I have been considering is monetizing the BLOG (yes, that would mean ads) and turning it over to the UCO Reporter. Perhaps then re-naming it to something like "UCO-Reporter-in-Cyberspace.wpb.blogspot.com" but this would probably require a vote of the Delegate Assembly.

So, please give this some thought and respond with a comment.

Thanks,
-

  1. This sounds like more B.S. why after all this time there is a legal issue.

  2. Lets call it THE HARD TO FIND BLOG (because we don't want anyone to move here). C'mon WPRF?!

  3. Wikipedia- Century Village is a census-designated place (CDP) in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Unlike the other Century Villages, ours is a government recognized place-name, like New York City or Brooklyn. Nobody owns those place-names either. My grandmother used Century Village, Florida with the zip for years.

If you rename the blog, it will be harder to find.

If you cede it to UCO, it will become a constant political bone of contention, and eventually disappear.

  4. Hi Dave. I agree. The WPRF legal beagles probably can't forbid the CV name. Some sort of compromise is called for.

  5. can't we just shorten to CentVblog or our2centsblog?

  6. Didn't WPRF get the memo -The Olympic Truce is a sacred tradition originating from Ancient Greece. A Truce was announced before and during the Olympic Games. During the Truce period, wars were suspended, armies were prohibited from threatening the Games, legal disputes were stopped, and death penalties were forbidden.

  7. Give me a break! Most of the bloggers are from Century Village so why can't we keep the name. Why after all this time WPRF?

  8. Has this come up because the blog can now be accessed worldwide, and people could be under the impression it is an organ of WPRF, which owns a large part of the Village?

It is already the "unofficial" blog in the logo--which incidentally doesn't even have the full words "Century Village." But the banner at the top DOES say Century Village, and says it emphatically.

How about if the banner said something else, such as what the logo says: CVers Blog. There could be more in the disclaimer than there is now, making it clear this is not a WPRF thing, but we should be able to say the blog is in existence to serve residents and owners of the Village.

I don't see making it an adjunct of the UCO Reporter. There have been enough misunderstandings about the Reporter without adding this.

And it is problem enough for the Reporter deciding what it can print and what it should not. The blog and the paper are not identical in this respect, so it would only compound the problems we have.

I shudder at the idea of ads.

I'll try to put on my thinking cap!

  9. Yes Cathy, the question is why! Why? The answer probably because they can, I think they know it is an insult and they have no regard for goodwill. Remind me why I converted info to promote WPRF for 2 years until their technology caught up. The blog has always been positive for WPRF and free with help and information.

  10. Names already taken are - Blog of Century, Beautiful Century, Century College, CV Blog, Born in the Wrong Century, and A Good Blog is Hard to Find, ...some interesting reading tho'.

  11. I woke up with the following idea for a name: CV Conversations.

Shall I go back to sleep?

  12. CV Scene, Village View, pffft!

  13. Whatever you do Dave, don't let it become an arm of the UCO Reporter. Change the name to whatever you want but keep the blog separate from the Village paper.

  14. No new name or other change comes to mind immediately. Would like to hear it brought up at the Delegate Assembly for discussion. The primary thought is not to make the blog hard to find.

  15. I don't care about ads, in fact, if they are local ads like the ones in the Reporter, bring them on.

If WPRF wants the "brand name" removed, take off the R with the circle around it and be done with it.

Now I am going to sit down and have a slice of Boston Cream Pie with an ice cold Manhattan Special and hope nobody sues me.

  16. Whatever happened to "CV Blog and Chat"

  17. Incidentally, "Century Village in West Palm Beach" is not accurate, so it probably would be a good idea to remove that.

We live in Century Village, Florida, 33417, in unincorporated Palm Beach County, outside the borders of the City of West Palm Beach.

Like everyone else, when people ask me where my place is, I say "West Palm Beach". Doesn't make it true.

"Century Village in Palm Beach County" doesn't work because of Boca CV.

  18. Yes Ken - the original CVBLOGANDCHAT – an oldie but goodie.
INCONVENIENT BLOG, MOJO BLOG, CV BLOG are taken. OUR VILLAGE brings up a zillion links.

CVWPB Blog seems to be available, shorter is good, we just plain folks.

  19. I like Ken's "CV Blog & Chat," too, Elaine. Get the explanatory words after this right, and I would hope the WPRF legal folk would give this their okay.

  20. One more from a villager in deep cover 'I would like to vote for "CV
Confidential" as the new name of the blog'

  21. TEN DECADES VILLAGE
    Five Score Village
    Either way, it's a century.
the blog is already called OUR VILLAGE IN WEST PALM BEACH...why does it need to change from that?
