Hi Marc,
ReplyDeleteThe single item on the Agenda was the financial viability of the Plymouth Laundry.
There was extensive discussion, but it was moot because there was no quorum.
Only 88 Delegates were signed in. This issue will be decided at the regular meeting of the Delegates on the first Friday of October, along with the entire UCO budget.

I certainly like the convenience of knowing that if I need it the laundry facility is there. I have used it often when our dryer is broken. This is costing everyone $1 and change per year. What is the fuss about? Raise the cost of the wash and dry. It is still better than seeing people schlepping their laundry on the bus to an outside facility. What is the matter with our people? For $1 a year have some compassion.
ReplyDeleteI would hope the laundry is kept going thru the busy season, and a banner over the door “USE YOUR LAUNDRY OR LOSE YOUR LAUNDRY”, and warnings to cut down on repairs. To whom do the machines belong, who does maintenance and repairs?
ReplyDeleteFor $1/yr I agree with Grace.
Its unfortunate that one of the usual suspects in the front row of the audience caused another unnecessary panic with the Treasurer and had this meeting called way too soon.
ReplyDeleteA point was brought up yesterday that I had not thought of. Laundry hours are cut so the many people who used to do their laundry early or late in the day, no longer can. Could this be the reason that laundry is losing money? Laundry is a valuable service to many. Keep it. Make it fit the needs of the people who will and want to use it.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteSeptember 22, 2012 9:51 AM,
Machines belong to UCO.
Repairs by Coin-O-Matic.

Does raising the prices on the Plymouth laundry machines require a vote of the full Delegate Assembly? It seems reasonable to me that CLOSING the laundrymat, a communally owned facility, should be approved by the full Assembly, but setting the prices is a management issue. If the price of electricity, or repairs, or insurance, or detergent goes up, the price hike should more or less be automatic and handled by the Officers. My association board does not poll the owners when they set the prices on our machines. They form a consensus and carry it out. That's what we elect them to do.

ReplyDeleteThe prices at the laundry should be adjusted so that it pays its own way, including enough put away to replace the machines and for repairs on the ones they can repair. There are people that seem dependent on them and it allows them to stay in the village to do it. Other people use them when association machines are down or not available.
