Just a little history lesson RE: Term Limits

-
If you look at history, there was no such thing as term limits in the USA until after 1945. Presidents until FDR had not won or really tried for a third term let alone a fourth.
-
The Republican party rallied and got an amendment passed to limit the President to two terms, thereby cutting their own throats because had Eisenhower wanted to run for a third term, he would have easily won. There are no term limits on senators or congressmen, and frankly, it would be STUPID to do so.
-
With Century Village the removal of term limits would allow THE VOTER to keep the needed experience and knowledge in place when THE VOTER feels it is the best thing for our village. THE VOTER AKA Delegate is and should be represented for each association in the village. If not the Delegate, then the Alternate.
-
Should the association choose someone that does not go to the meetings, then they are at fault, not the other associations, hence the next subject which is trying to put a hold on the vote until the "snowbirds" come back. Another Stupid suggestions.
-
Why do the rest of us have to put everything on hold because they choose not to be here? Once again, each association has a delegate and an alternate. If both are not here in the off season, who's fault is that?
Poor planning on their part doesn't constitute putting the lives of the rest of us on hold. p.s. ....Washington started the tradition of only two terms when he refuse to run for a third....he also turned down being the King...

  1. From the UCO Reporter – Bill Snyder served 3 years as UCO President “because of indecision in the ranks of who could be president.” What year was that? Sometimes there is no qualified new blood so we change with the times. At least let everyone run. Abolish term limits.

    I agree with you 100%
I want David for at least another
2 years because he knows right from wrong and in my opinion he is one of the best President CV has had since I moved here.

  3. Hi Elaine,
    June 30, 2013 at 11:10 AM,

    Research my dear Elaine; William Snyder = 1984 - 1986 +/-.

According to the plaque on the "UCO Wall of Presidents"

  4. I must, respectfully, ask that you consider some form of term limits and encourage the individual associations to do the same.

The unit I live in has had the same President and Vice President since it was built: they signed the original documents accepting the building from the developer.

    This is unacceptable.

No one told us when we bought that we live in the private kingdom of two ladies who should have retired 20 years ago.

They generally do an excellent job - but no other ideas are tolerated.

I understand the UCO issues of getting qualified executives and can support a longer limit than one term - but the complete elimination of any term limits is a dangerous practice that should be avoided.

  5. In my building, the original board is all dead. I can't imagine there are still serving Board members from the early 1970s, but medical miracles do happen...

  6. Just a quick response to the writer's comment about the "snowbirds" and why they should be included in discussions. Without the "snowbirds" there would be no C.V. That is the reality. That is why they should be included in any and all material decision making.

  7. In our building we have elections every year which the whole association including snow birds vote. The one with the most votes is president and so forth. I think this is very fair. Of course, if the person is not interested being president the next in line with the most votes wins. Unfortunately, our president just past away. She has been our president for many years and she will be missed. We have a great board of directors to carry on.

  8. i am not saying not to include the snowbirds, in this day and age there are things like conference calling etc. that will include them. the simple fact is that there are two people designated to serve as the delegate. The president is normally the delegate and whomever the president chooses to represent the association as an alternate. If they have any common sense, the alternate will be someone that is here when the president is not. That is the purpose of having an alternate. With that in mind, how are they left out? If they choose to have snowbirds in both positions, then it is their fault for not being represented. The rest of us that are here year round should not have to wait for residents that are in a sense "temporary".
I, as a permanent resident, do not wish to have someone that is here for 3 or 4 months dictate how I have to live the other 8 months of the year. WE, the permanent residents should not have to stop our lives until they come.
The same goes for anyone that gets elected to an office and then moves out and does not reside here. If you sell your condo and claim homestead elsewhere, you should resign.

  9. Re - "excellent job - but no other ideas are tolerated" If this means you do not have renters or animals and no patio and furniture that no-one looks after, you are onto a GOOD thing. Stick with it.
