WI-FI
I have been told that Comcast now offers WI-FI as part of its services. Can we find out more about this offering. Perhaps with their technology and equiment, they have the infrastructure to provide it here in Century Village. I have been informed that if CV were to provide its own WI-FI, tit would jeopardize our existing contract with Comcast and that CV may have to return the "Gateway Money" of more than $2 million dollars?
Can someone provide some clarifiaction here?
Thanks

Hi Howard,
ReplyDeleteComcast has repeatedly advised me that they have no Wi-Fi Product.
Should that change, they will be given an opportunity to bid.
There is no prohibition in our contract with Comcast, for cable TV, that would preclude us from moving ahead with Wi-Fi.

Thanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteThere is a rumor circulating that
ReplyDeletethe only unit owners who will be
able to get WiFi are the owners
who have a laptop. Any truth to
this rumor?

I would think that anyone would be able to sign on with a wifi enabled device. This would include iPad's, Kindle's, tablets, that were wifi enable. Maybe anyone in CV including visitors???????
ReplyDeleteAny Wi-Fi enabled device will be able to get on the Wi-Fi. There are also dongles that can be added to older desktops that are not Wi-Fi capable to make them so.
ReplyDeleteAlso for Comcast Wi-Fi the only Wi-Fi that they offer is to place a Wi-Fi modem/router in your home that is attached to the cable. They would be willing to sell us bulk internet instead of Wi-Fi at a much higher rate.
When I switched from DSL to ATT
ReplyDeleteU Verse, unbeknownst to me, I acquired WI FI, provided as Anitra
stated with a router, that is connected to the wall jack...my primary phone ( I have several)
is as well connected both to the
jack located in the router & electrical outlet...Unfortunately all of my phones were not compatible and were replaced. Needless to say the monthly chgs.are costly....
Wi-Fi is independent of the provider. If you have non-WiFi service from either a DSL or Cable provider, you can purchase a "router" for about $40 (or rent it for about $6/month) that will provide Wi-Fi with no special license or service required. I have it from ComCast for a total of just under $20/month - works fine.
ReplyDeleteStu, how do you manage $20, is it an introductory rate. My Comcast internet connection is $29.95/month and my router is free (was a gift). Thx
ReplyDeleteI would still rather pay $3 for our own WiFi.
