ON BAR CODE STICKERS
I am sure glad I got my bar code sticker before driving up
to Massachusetts. I kept putting it off till the last moment. When I went into
UCO, Ed or Eve Black would kindly remind me about it. I’d say “tomorrow.” Bob
Marshall would remind us ALL about it in his Reporter column and at the monthly
delegates meetings (and, amazingly, get criticized for this in the “negative
blogs”—you can’t win!).
Now it’s a must to have your bar code sticker, I understand,
if you want to get in the Okeechobee gate without stopping at the guard station.
As a reformed procrastinator I am urging everyone to not put this off. Get
yours now, before the seasonal folk come down!
I’ve had a Florida Turnpike sticker pass for quite a while
now, and it’s a convenience. Driving to Boston on I-95, though, I had to pay so many
tolls ($14 alone for the George Washington Bridge), I got myself an EZPass. It
covers virtually all the toll roads, bridges and tunnels in the Northeast. If
you don’t have an EZPass, these toll facilities require CASH.
I expect the
EZPass to be a great convenience, and our CV bar code sticker will be too if you'll stop putting off getting it. Bite the bullet NOW!
I've had an EZ pass for over 12 years as I also drive back and forth to MA in the summer. I just wish that Sun Pass would join with E-Z pass as it can be used on the Jersey Turnpike, MA turnpike and PA and other roads.

ReplyDeleteMore about the E-ZPass: I'm told that by October 1, 2016, our SunPass (used on the Florida Turnpike) and the E-ZPass will be made interoperable. In other words, if you have the E-ZPass, you will be able to use it on the Florida Turnpike. I don’t know if the reverse will be true, however.
ReplyDeleteAnother point: if you are setting up an account for an E-ZPass, consider increasing the point at which your account balance gets replenished and the amount with which it is replenished. When I got my E-ZPass (through Mass.; with other jurisdictions it could be different), it was automatically set up so when the account balance reached $10 (or less), it would be replenished up to a $20 balance by billing my credit card.
That would be fine, I thought, except if I were going through toll facility after toll facility, my credit card might have to be billed two or three times during a Florida-Boston run. I supposed that would be okay too, but then I was told by the Mass. E-ZPass clerk that replenishment of the account can take three days for an out-of-stater, living in Florida like me. So I had them change the point at which they replenish to $50 and to replenish up to an $80 balance.
The transponder is not working, on the gare?

They are not designed for such use.

I am hoping my earlier contribution to this thread was not deleted on purpose. I was suggesting snow birds should be permitted to secure the bar code via mail. UCO already has most of our information when we purchased the transponder. Why not permit an exchange?. Snowbirds could mail the old transponder (if it is deemed necessary) a check and return envelope. NO WAITING! This is an easy step to be more user friendly. We can all follow simple directions where to mount it. Those who feel challenged by mounting it can wait until they are at C.V.
