  1. I am glad that 175 delegates voted, a number far exceeding not only the summer quorum requirement (117), but the winter one (141) as well. "Vigorous debate" is inherent in the democratic process. Two quotations come to mind. "To retain respect for sausages and laws, one must not watch them in the making." (Otto von Bismarck). “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” (Winston Churchill).

  2. I am glad Atlantic Broadband won but agree with Old Nassau '67 that it was a good debate at today's Delegate Assembly. There were risks with either choice: (1) in Atlantic Broadband's being a newcomer to us with questions about their being able to deliver on time; versus (2) the question of what Comcast's actual terms would be because of their having stalled in not providing a final contract, AB then having run out of time, and Comcast thus in the position of having no competition.

I salute BOTH the hardworking Broadband Committee and the delegates. The "ABers" won, but I congratulate the "CCers," a sizable minority, for the thoughtful concerns and cogent arguments of many of them. I hope now we can go forward united, knowing that good people, like a family, simply disagree at times.
