HURRICANE IRMA MAINTENANCE REPORT
-
I urge CV residents to view the detailed Hurricane Irma maintenance report, replete with text and photographs, by Mr. Donald Foster, Century Village's Licensed Community Association Manger.Once again. Mr. Foster works far beyond normal business hours, as I can attest from meeting him while I am jogging or bicycling. The report is posted on the CV blog spot, or through

Lessons Learned (Irma)
Please add to this beyond
existing prep list items, CERT prep list was excellent too:
Make
friends and contact contractors before hurricane season.
Remind maintenance to put blue/yellow recycle bins in meter room, or do it your self.
When
your power is on, or whenever, check on friends in nursing homes.
If
you are replacing trees per code, Live Florida Oaks, or Palms, most
likely to stand.
If
hurricane is coming across FL from the Keys, probably shelter in
place. If it comes from east, leave!
Make
sure you have phone recharger for the car, not just indoors.
Have a
condo checker if you are away (not the Board!)
Anything
still needs to be done, do it yourself.
Please read, the life you save may be yours!!!!
Dear Neighbors and friends, Please make it a point to open this and download the app. Given the nature of our community the emergency Services that we have also need our assistance in order to save lives.
also please send to your friends and neighbors here an in other developments in Palm Beach County.
Thank you, Ruthie Berman

Lost Cat?
I have seen a dark colored cat roaming around Stratford H through J late this afternoon and also around 9 tonight. I think Stratford G through J doesn't have power yet. It looks like someone's pet that is looking for it's owner. Just thought I would post this in case anyone is looking for their cat.

Good morning,
While the main clubhouse and Kent pool remain without power, the Hastings Clubhouse and all other pool areas have electricity. Security has resumed their duties and my maintenance crew is working to set up the pool deck area. The Hastings clubhouse is open to the residents, however, the pools will remain closed until tomorrow so that the chemicals can do their job and bring back the proper balance. The tennis courts are open for play.
Please help to get the word out. I have hope that the MCH power will be restored sometime today.
Thank you, Eva

Many thanks to UCO workers who answered the phone for inquiries
from we evacuees. Monday I was able to find 70% of CV was without

Sussex K and L now have power 'tho it blinks off just when you get

Hi Concerned,
The problem is there is no power there yet. The same issue is impacting a number of Associations.
FPL is in the Village making repairs.

DOM GUARNAGIA ON A FEW NO COST/LOW COST IDEAS ON HURRICANE PREP.
-
LOW AND NO-COST THINGS TO DO BEFORE IRMA
It’s probably too late to stock up on water and batteries
since there is a sense of havoc around the corner, however, there are a few
simple things that we all can do to make hunkering down more comforting.
·
Change the
setting on your refrigerator/freezer to a colder setting. If the electricity
goes down, the contents will have more time to be useable before spoiling.
·
Fill some
clean empty containers with water and pack as much as you can into voids in the
freezer. This will prolong the shelf life of the contents and provide drinking
water as the containers defrost.
·
Set the lever
and apply tape over the drain in the bath tub and fill with water slightly
below the overflow opening. This will store water for flushing your toilet for
several days. If the electricity goes down throughout the area, pumps cannot
deliver water to your sink/toilets.
·
Close your
shutters by Thursday. They have been unused for some time and working on
shuttering should be initiated early since the task will be daunting.
·
Plan to share
the experience with someone who is elderly and alone. There is strength and
reassurance with friends.
·
If your
critical medications are less than 10 days’ worth call your Pharmacy and Doctor
to have an early refill or at least some additional meds provided before
Friday.
·
Pass the
word to your neighbors who may not have a computer to receive these no-cost
tasks.

THE TIME TO START YOUR HURRICANE IRMA PREPARATIONS IS NOW!
-
Of course, this scenario is not a certainty - but it could happen here. Food, Water, Medications, Evacuation, Pets, Batteries, Full tank of gas in your vehicle....Etc. UCO will take a very serious roll in the Hurricane Irma countermeasures, preparations and recovery, within our capability.
-
Starting on Tuesday Morning, UCO will meet and start coordinating the efforts of our C.E.R.T Cell, The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), Seacrest, BELFOR, and Platinum Security. In fact our first meeting with ADRC was video recorded and that meeting is to be found on this Blog.
-
-
Keep your eye on this Blog for CV centric information as it becomes available. Also, of course, keep your attention on TV news as IRMA gets closer, and more accurate and certain track data is presented.

BUILDING SWAP PASSED BY OVERWHELMING MARGIN - CLICKER BASED VOTING WORKS AS ADVERTISED
-
Automated report produced by voting application on the computer
-
The long debated initiative to trade the CV Real Estate building for the Storage building near Southampton passed at this mornings meeting of the Delegate Assembly. The vote, using the new clickers for the first time, was two to one in favor of the swap.
The use of the clickers, went almost flawlessly. One glitch involved the accidental return of the wrong ID Cards to two Residents, whose name differed by only one letter. This error has of course been corrected.
125 Delegates voted and the result, seen in the above graphic, was collected and tallied by the computer in under two minutes.
While most Delegates who came to the microphone expressed valid concerns, and brought good questions, a small group of "The Usual Suspects" having no valid counter arguments simply engaged in delaying tactics, in an attempt to get enough Delegates to walk out, thus denying a quorum. Fortunately, this tactic failed.
A few Delegates, five to be exact, refused to exchange their ID Card for the clicker, thus denying their Associations a voice in this important issue. There is no valid reason to not provide your ID, the clickers are costly items and we need to be sure we can have them returned after the meeting.
Be advised, that if any Delegate loses their ID card in our new clicker based voting process, Eva Rachesky has agreed to replace the ID card free of charge.
Finally, many thanks to the Ad-Hoc Clicker Committee; Chaired by John Gragg. John Gragg, Ken Graff, Jody Lebel, David Boas and others, have worked long hours to get the clicker initiative ready for prime time.
