Our annual meeting

Another question pertaining to our board meeting. Are outsiders allowed to attend our meeting? People from another association would like to sit in on our meeting. Some owners are saying our meeting is only for our owners and not for others. What would be the solution to this predicament. Thank you so much for your answers.

  1. Our annual meeting is for association members only. If people from another association wants to attend it is up to the majority of the unit owners to vote on it. In all the years I have lived in CV our annual meeting has been for association members only. I can understand why your unit owners feel outsiders shouldn't be allowed. It is your association's business not others.

  2. Hi Helene,
Your question is contradictory insofar as your Title states "Annual Meeting" and your Post states "Board Meeting" when discussing The Law, words matter. FS-718 mandates a yearly Unit Owners meeting. This might easily be interpreted as being for your Unit Owners only, not to include non-unit owners.
Clearly, before allowing any outsiders, it would seem reasonable to seek a Unit Owner vote prior to admitting outsiders to the meeting.

Since this question could be seen to be a matter of Law, I would consult your Association Attorney.
