Backing in parking

We have noticed some cars backing into their association parking spot. For safety measures our association would like to do the same. Do we need a special permission to do so. Thank you.

  1. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!! If a unit owner has their windows open, the exhaust from the vehicle goes into their unit which can make you ill especially if you have any kind of a breathing problem. If you are a Florida resident your license plate is only shown in the back of your vehicle. Other states usually have both front and back plates. Our security or police that are patrolling the village would not be able to see your license plate unless they get out of their vehicle. These residents should be warned and discouraged not to do this.

  2. I agree with the above but it is not illegal.

  3. As I understand it, it is legally all right to back into your parking space. I don't, however, for the reasons you cite and two others: (1) If a vehicle comes careening down our street and hits my parked car, the damage is likely to be less hitting the rear of my car than the front. And (2) Although it is easier pulling out of your parking spot going forward, it's a LOT HARDER (for me anyway) backing into the spot to park. There are often two cars on either side of me and very close. I have two sons who drive trucks, and I've noticed that they—and other truckers—when they must use a parking spot, nearly always back into it. They're used to this, though, and anyway they're better drivers than old Dad.

  4. Cathy, I am the unit owner facing where I park. I see nothing wrong with backing into my spot should I want to. I backed into my parking spot in a garage where I used to live for over twenty years and no problems. A lot of the other cars did the same in the parking garage. As well I start my car and leave. I don't idle it.
